CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.– The (RV) Campbellsville University women's soccer team traveled up to Thomas More University Friday evening where the Lady Tigers took their first Mid-South win of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Saints.
The offense got cooking early with a goal from
Lina Berrah in the fifth minute of play. Thomas More made advances toward the Lady Tiger goal, but Campbellsville kept the Saints to only corner kicks.
Angeline Kieh, took a shot but was missed on the crossbar. This failed attempt did not deter Campbellsville as Kieh followed up downfield moments later to score. Campbellsville remained aggressive offensively as they continued to take shots on the Saints' goal. After Kieh's score, the Lady Tigers took four more shots toward Thomas More's net. Campbellsville's defense persisted and their goal remained untouched as the Saints did not have another opportunity to take a shot.
At the half, Campbellsville had taken seven shots and six of them had been on goal. Berrah's offensive valiancy shown through her three shots on goal. The Saints had only taken three shots total, one of which being on goal. Goalkeeper,
Rirei Sasaki, saved the only shot taken by the Saints.
Six minutes into the second half, Thomas More began to heat up. The Saints quickly scored to cut their deficit in half at 2-1. Campbellsville ignited their fire and struck back with a goal of their own delivered by Kieh. Campbellsville kept a tight lock on the defense and Thomas More had three corner kicks since Kieh's goal. In the 88
th minute, the Saints were battling within the box and Sasaki was able to defend it well. Seconds later though, Thomas More capitalized off the unbalanced keeper and the opponent struck the Lady Tiger's net again coming to within a single score. The Saints remained hungry, but Campbellsville held them off and put them away in a 3-2 score.
By the end of the match, Campbellsville took 11 shots and ten of them accurately on goal. Thomas More had taken five shots on goal out of their nine. Kieh (two goals) and Berrah (one) were the three Lady Tigers to appear on the scoreboard. Sasaki tallied two saves to keep Campbellsville in the lead.
The Lady Tigers will be back at Finley Stadium on Wednesday, October 5
th. Campbellsville will be hosting Georgetown College in a Mid-South Conference match-up.
