WILBERFORCE, Ohio. – The #3 Lady Tigers traveled to face Wilberforce University Thursday night. Campbellsville's bench shined with most of their points, winning 89-54.
The game started with Wilberforce making the first bucket and then going on a 10-2 run. The first quarter was marred with sloppy plays on both sides, with nine turnovers. Wilberforce's disruptive defense had the Lady Tigers shooting only 33% with a minute left, but LTB hit three three-point baskets, two from
Sarah Sutton and one from
Courtney Pritchett, bringing their field goal percentage up to 40% at the end of the quarter.
Starting the second quarter ahead by two, the Lady Tigers slowly began to extend their advantage. A
Lauren Lee and-one gave the Lady Tigers a ten-point lead. Campbellsville started to succeed in the paint with their offensive rebounding and fast break opportunities. Heading into halftime, the Lady Tigers with the advantage, 40-29. Coming off the bench,
Sarah Sutton led the team with 11 points, and three made threes. She spearheaded the Lady Tigers' big first-half bench play, with the reserves collecting 24 of Campbellsville's points.
The start of the second half was physical, but the Lady Tigers persevered. Although the field goal percentage fell for both teams, Campbellsville grew their lead to 19 at the halfway point of the third quarter. The Lady Tigers battled the physicality and found themselves at the free throw line converting 17 of their 22 attempts.
The final quarter started with the Lady Tigers extending their lead to 30 with another made three from Sutton. From there until the final horn, Campbellsville utilized ball movement, active defense, and their chances at the charity stripe.
The Lady Tigers shared the ball generously, collectively having 22 assists. The Campbellsville bench had 48 of the 89 total points. The Lady Tigers also totaled 40 rebounds compared to the Bulldog's 26.
Maddie Nalley had three of the four total blocks for Campbellsville. Sutton led the Lady Tigers with 16 points.
Kaitlynn Wilks followed with 12 points, and
Maddy Boyle with ten.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday, January 28th, as they seek revenge against #1 Thomas More. The game starts at 1 p.m. ET in the Powell Athletic Center.
