INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Tigers held their own on both the track and the field over the weekend at the Tom Hathaway Distance Challenge.
In the long jump, Campbellsville was close to having a perfect 1-7 scoresheet on the day.
Kilan Macklin led the group with the victory jump of 6.88m.
CamRon Hamby was 2nd behind Macklin in 6.61m,
Matthew Mays hit a mark of 6.51m in 3rd,
Corey Smith was 5th overall in 6.46m,
Gregory Carr came in 6th in 6.30m,
Chance Lucas was 7th with a mark of 6.26m, and
Jackson Harrell rounded out the group in 8th in 6.24m.
The triple jump proved to be no different for the Tigers. Mays improved upon his NAIA A Standard and set a new school record in the process of 14.52m. Mays won the event with Smith in a close second at 14.21m. Hamby was 3rd overall in 13.81, Macklin placed 5th in 12.98, and
Jaron Hamby was 8th at 12.75m.
Macklin and C. Hamby went top five in the high jump. Macklin was .05 off the school record in the event with a runner-up finish of 1.95. He needs a 2.01m to earn an NAIA B Standard. Hamby was 4th overall in the event in 1.90m.
Four athletes stacked up in the men's 60m finals.
Elijah Moore won in 6.99,
Darionta Bell came in 2nd in 7.06, Lucas placed 3rd in 7.08, and Harrell was 7th in 7.16. Moore came close to a second victory in the 200m with a sub-23 performance of 22.99.
Maikyah Stowe finished 4th in 23.23, and
Miah Chatmond was .16 behind Stowe in 4th at 23.39.
After his sub-50 performance last weekend, Stowe is hovering around the 50-second mark again in the 400m. He earned runner-up in the event with a time of 51.22. Chatmond was 5th in 52.18.
Aiden Tucker, a mid-distance specialist, moved down to the 400m and finished in 8th place, scoring position time of 52.80.
Shawn Little earned a victory in the 5,000m. Little pulled away the final lap with a four-second cushion victory of 15:30.68.
Dakota Brady was ten seconds behind Little in 15:40.05, and
Samuel Bennett was 7th overall in a 13-second PR of 16:04.17.
Ishan Cooper earned a runner-up performance in the 60m hurdles. His time of 8.65 was only .33 seconds behind the winner. Carr was 4th in the event in 8.74.
Chatmond, Moore, Stowe, and
Zachary Phelps pulled away in the final few meters of the race in the 4x400m relay and won with a time of 3:30.73.
Cainan Daniels rounded out top-8 scoring for the Tigers with a 6th place finish in the heptathlon of 3,299 pts.
Campbellsville will have the weekend off before returning to the track on February 10-11 at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
