GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Campbellsville took the road to Georgetown on Thursday night for the battle of the Tigers. As a testament of their control over the match, the Tigers won the match 3-0 over Georgetown.
An attack error from Campbellsville set the first set into motion in Georgetown's favor, but Cierra Merrick was quick to match the score with a kill assisted by Camryn Rich. Olivia Hellman landed two service aces that put the Tigers in the lead. As the first frame continued to unfold, Campbellsville did not let the opposing Tigers take hold of the lead, reaching a 7-point advantage over Georgetown. Marisa Gallardo closed the first set with a kill, earning Campbellsville their first win, 25-19.
Morgan Furness made the first kill of the second set. Rich continued to assist her teammates agilely, scoring kill-after-kill in the Tigers' favor. Campbellsville kept control of the ball at the net, blocking the opposing Tigers' attempts to come closer on the scoreboard. Brooke Hager and Hannah McGill skillfully handled passes from Rich, widening Campbellsville's lead. With a kill from Rich, assisted by Alexandra Jedycha, the Tigers won the second set 25-17.
Georgetown earned the first two points of the third frame with a kill and an attack error from Campbellsville. However, the Tigers were quick to retaliate with kills from Merrick and Rich. Molly Shannon swiftly blocked attacks from the opposing Tigers, keeping Georgetown on the trailing end of the scoreboard. MacKenzie Poteet came off the bench with two back-to-back service aces, propelling the Tigers forward on the lead. Zofia Serafinowska and Furness kept on scoring more kills for Campbellsville, increasing their advantage over Georgetown. With a blocked attack from the opposing Tigers by Rich, the Tigers won the third set, 25-17.
Campbellsville finished today's match with a hitting percentage of .233, nine aces, and 7.0 blocks, compared to Georgetown's .093 hitting percentage, three aces, and 6.0 blocks. Hager led the team with ten kills, Taylor Thacker with 13 digs, and Rich with 25 assists.
The Tigers will be back in action, taking the road to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to go against the University of the Cumberlands Patriots on October 14th, beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
