CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the #5 Columbia Cougars at Finley Stadium Wednesday afternoon. After trailing the Cougars deep into the second half, the Lady Tigers offense retaliated, tying the match 3-3.
After a short delay, the game began with a corner kick by
Olja Ivanovic within the first couple of minutes of play.
Agatha Nimene attempted a header, followed by a shot from
Angeline Kieh, but both were saved by the opposing goalie. Shortly after, the Cougars connected for the first goal of the match. In the following minutes,
Rirei Sasaki's agile saves prevented Columbia from scoring yet again.
Lina Berrah skillfully handled the ball across the field, passing it to
Angeline Kieh kicking a slightly-wide-to-the-left shot. With less than ten minutes left in the first 45, Columbia landed another goal, 2-0.
Campbellsville had grabbed three saves in the opening portion of the game while they put six shots up on the other end, compared to Columbia's four saves and 12 shots.
The Cougars attempted four shots at the goal within the first few minutes of the second half. Directly after, a header shot from
Charlotte Maconachie hit the crossbar, and Lulu Harris took the opportunity to attempt another shot for the Lady Tigers, saved by the Cougars' goalie. At the 68-minute mark, Kieh kicked the first goal for Campbellsville (a soaring shot from dozens of yards away), bringing the Lady Tigers closer to Columbia on the scoreboard. Kieh attempted another header shot just minutes later, however it was a bit wide of the goal. Nimene landed the second goal for Campbellsville, tying the score at two, and followed it very closely after with her second goal for the Lady Tigers, earning them their first lead of the game. With less than three minutes left, the Cougars retaliated with a goal of their own, finishing the game at a 3-3 tie.
In all, the two squads took a whopping 43 shots with 18 on goal. That was the third time this season that the Lady Tigers' match against a top-ranked opponent has ended in a draw.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action, hosting the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders on October 11th, beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
