Lady Tigers force 30 turnovers in win over Lady Bearcats

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The #1 Lady Tigers hosted the Brescia University Lady Bearcats for the first home game of the season on Saturday. Campbellsville's tenacious defense and hot shooting proved too much for Brescia as they won, 102-42.

The Lady Tigers put seven points on the scoreboard before the Lady Bearcats got a chance at retaliating. Kaitlyn Wilks sank a three-pointer for the first time in the 2023-24 campaign. The Lady Bearcats only made it to double digits on the score after Campbellsville held a 15-point advantage. Whitney Hay and Kayla Luebbe came off the bench assisting their teammates scoring jumper after jumper. Going into the second quarter, the Lady Tigers led the game by 13, 27-14.

The Lady Bearcats opened the second quarter with a jumper, but Wilks was quick to retaliate with a layup assisted by Courtney Pritchett. Maddy Boyle made two back-to-back layups stemming from fast break opportunities off of Brescia turnovers. Continued buckets near the basket forced the Lady Bearcats to foul where both Hay and Wilks faced opportunities at the charity stripe, collecting more points for the Lady Tigers. At the end of the first 20, Campbellsville held a 31-point upperhand over Brescia, 55-24.

Going into the second half, the Lady Tigers led in almost every single statistical category: percentages from the field, free throw line, and three, three's made, assists, and more. Campbellsville collected 16 bench points compared to Brescia's two, as well as leading the game for the entirety of the first half.

Much like the second quarter, Brescia opened the second half with a layup, but Boyle struck back with a jumper shortly after. Campbellsville consistently put Brescia into impossible situations via their persistent cutting and passing, resulting free throw line trips over and over again. Elizabeth Bertram skillfully scored back-to-back buckets for Campbellsville and, going into the last quarter, the Lady Tigers remained far ahead, 79-37.

Maddie Nalley began the last quarter with a layup and then Bailey Pedigo, Tyra Flowers, and Paige Serafini all widened the Lady Tigers' lead. With only a couple minutes left on the clock, the Lady Tigers reached triple digits on the scoreboard. The game came to a close with a 60-point Lady Tiger victory, 102-42.

At the end of the game, Campbellsville led the game in many different factors, collecting 21 steals to Brescia's nine, 49 bench points to their 12, and 32 assists to their 10. Boyle and Bertram led with 17 points each, Flowers with nine rebounds, and Pedigo, Lauren Lee, and Hay with six assists each.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action next Saturday, November 18th hosting the University of Science and Arts Drovers beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
