CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #1 Lady Tigers hosted the #24 University of Science and Arts Drovers on Saturday night. After more than doubling the Drovers with points in the paint, Campbellsville took the victory, 80-54.
Bailey Pedigo opened the first quarter with a layup.
Maddy Boyle, Katilynn Wilks, and
Lauren Lee widened Campbellsville's advantage at the charity stripe. The Drovers were only able to make it to the scoreboard halfway through the first quarter, held back by the Lady Tigers' unrelenting defense.
Tyra Flowers agilely made her first steal from Science and Arts, passing the ball to
Whitney Hay ending in a jumper. With less than five minutes left on the clock,
Maddie Nalley collected her third rebound of the game and scored a layup, closing the first quarter with Campbellsville with the lead 28-2.
Boyle's first jumper of the game began the second quarter, assisted by
Courtney Pritchett. The Drovers retaliated at last with four back-to-back baskets. However, this did not deter the Lady Tigers from reclaiming the ball and striking back with a nine-point run of their own. Lee landed the first Campbellsville three-point jump-shot of the game, continuing to amplify their upper hand over Science and Arts. At the end of the first half, the Lady Tigers held the lead on the scoreboard, 45-18.
Going into the last twenty, Lee led Campbellsville with 15 points. The Lady Tigers surpassed the Drovers in almost all statistical categories, most significantly collecting 21 rebounds to their nine and their consistent points from the interior.
Science and Arts opened the second half with a nine-point run, answered with a three-pointer from Boyle assisted by Lee. As the third quarter continued to unfold, the Drovers' offense collected a few more points decreasing their deficit on the score. Campbellsville did not allow them to come any closer to the lead, with back-to-back layups from Nalley and
Kayla Luebbe, and a three-point jump shot by Pritchett. Going into the last quarter, the Lady Tigers remained in control, 60-37.
Much like the third, the Drovers began the fourth quarter with a bucket.
Elizabeth Bertram scored her first points of the game with a layup assisted by Hay. Luebbe came off the bench with strong offensive plays, collecting her seventh offensive rebound, third layup, and first three-pointer of the game.
Bree Gowdy entered the game with only a couple of minutes left on the clock, landing a layup and assisting Luebbe. The Lady Tigers finished the game with a 26-point victory over the Drovers, 80-54.
At the end of the game, Campbellsville collected some significant advantages over Science and Arts: 28 bench points to their two, 44 points in the paint to their 20, and leading the game for 99.2% of the game. The Drovers, however, surpassed the Lady Tigers with 43 on-court points to our 11. Lee led the team with 16 points, Luebbe with seven rebounds, and Pedigo with four steals.
