14 Lady Tigers score in rout against Bulldogs

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The #1 Lady Tigers went against the Union College Bulldogs Saturday night, on their second day down in Tennessee. Campbellsville secured their largest margin of victory of the season, defeating Union by 71 points, 119-48.

The Bulldogs opened the game taking the ball at tip off, but Bailey Pedigo swiftly stole the ball and passed it to Lauren Lee for the first layup of the game. Campbellsville's rebounds kept the ball coming back to Union's end of the court, collecting buckets in their favor. Halfway through the first quarter, the Bulldogs had only scored one point with a free-throw and the Lady Tigers continued to widen their lead. Union landed a couple more baskets, but Kayla Luebbe racked up layups deep in the paint. At the end of the first quarter, Campbellsville led the game 32-8.

Much like the first, a Lee layup set the second quarter into motion. Union retaliated with one of their own, but Maddy Boyle quickly struck back with a three-pointer. Anytime the Bulldogs got a glimpse of offense going, the Lady Tigers poked a ball free and caused a turnover. Paige Serafini came off the bench with twelve points in threes, propelling Campbellsville forward to a 49-point advantage. Multiple Lady Tigers agilely handled the ball with poise, passing it to each other, racking up 12 assists throughout the quarter. A layup by Kaitlynn Wilks closed the first half with Union trailing Campbellsville, 70-22.

Going into the second half, the Lady Tigers exerted their control of both ends of the floor. Most significantly they collected 25 assists to the Bulldogs' two, 37 bench points to their two, 28 rebounds to their 13, and only three turnovers compared to their 13 turnovers.

In the beginning minutes of the third quarter, Pedigo and Courtney Pritchett scored their first three-pointers of the game. Wilks and Whitney Hay both stood at the charity stripe, collecting a few more points in the Lady Tigers' favor. Although the Bulldogs significantly improved their field-goal percentage coming into the second half (from nearly 27% in the first half to 40% in the third quarter), Campbellsville's steadfast offense kept the upper hand on the game. Bree Gowdy and Maddie Nalley both came into the game with layups, closing the third quarter 95-34 in the Lady Tigers' favor.

Gowdy began the last quarter with a layup and a three-pointer assisted by Sarah Sutton, bringing Campbellsville to triple digits on the scoreboard. Paige Evans and Caylan Mills came off the bench with jumpers assisted by Gowdy and Serafini. Rachel Presley made her first points in her Lady Tiger career, with a couple opportunities at the free-throw line and a layup. Campbellsville closed the game with a 71-point victory, defeating the Bulldogs 119-48.

At the end of the game, the Lady Tigers bested Union in all statistical categories, most noticeably with 36 assists to their eight, 75 bench points to their two, 13 steals to their 4, and 58 points on the paint to their 16. The Bulldogs never gained control over the scoreboard, with Campbellsville leading for 99.7% of the game. Serafini recorded four new career highs with 16 points, four three-pointers, six rebounds, and four assists. Four more players reached double-digits Saturday night: Luebbe with 22, Boyle and Wilks with 13, and Gowdy with 12.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Thursday, November 30th hosting the Southeastern University Fire beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
