Tigers win over Bethel in straight sets

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On Friday afternoon, our Campbellsville Tigers hosted the Bethel University Wildcats. As a testimony of their bold offense, the Tigers won the game in straight sets, 3-0.

Molly Shannon opened tonight's match-up with a ferocious kill assisted by Camryn Rich. The Wildcats retaliated on their next chance at the ball, but the Tigers did not falter at taking the early lead. Bethel attempted to decrease Campbellsville's lead, but Brooke Hager's steadfast control at the net blocked the Wildcats' opportunities to score. Cierra Merrick closed the first set with a win for the Tigers, 25-19.

An attack error from the Tigers awarded the Wildcats the first point on the scoreboard, but Campbellsville was quick to earn a point in their favor. Hannah McGill's back-to-back kills propelled the Tigers upward. Bethel remained only a few points behind Campbellsville, but the Tigers did not waver their hold on the lead. With firm defensive control, Morgan Furness blocked an attack from the Wildcats. With two kills from Hager and one from McGill, Campbellsville won the second set, 25-16.

Shannon started the third set with two back-to-back kills, securing the lead for the Tigers in the early stages of the frame. After tying at three, Beyza Bektasoglu and Shannon clawed Campbellsville back up to the lead, followed by a service ace from Taylor Thacker. Rich avid assists to her teammates increased Bethel's deficit, gaining the Tigers a 12-point advantage over the Wildcats. Hager closed the third set with a kill, winning the last set for Campbellsville, 25-13.

Campbellsville finished the match with a hitting percentage of .343, six aces, and 8.0 blocks, compared to Bethel's .141 hitting percentage, single ace, and 5.0 blocks. Merrick led the team with 12 kills and 14 digs, and Rich led with 34 assists.
