KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The Tigers were able to finish out the 2023 season as the NCCAA National Runner-Up after falling to Westmont College 3-1 in the championship game.
Campbellsville made the final game after defeating Roberts Wesleyan Friday afternoon 5-1. The Tigers fell behind early in the match after a deflection in the box caused the first goal to go against Campbellsville.
Throughout the course of the first half, Westmont was in the Tigers defensive third of the field. Going into the halftime break, Westmont had a 4-2 shot advantage over Campbellsville and a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers came out firing early in the second half, with control happening in the midfield and progressing the ball into the offensive third of the field. Westmont regained momentum when a second goal went in off a goal from outside of the box.
The third and final goal for Westmont came from a distance on the left side of the net.
Zeezo Cassim scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the 90th minute of play from outside the box into the back post.
Campbellsville had two on the all-tournament team.
Marc Boye and
Mihlali Blesi were named to the team.
The season comes to a close with an overall record of 15-6-3. Campbellsville had a 7-1 home record, a 5-4-2 away record, and a 3-1-1 neutral site record.
