LOUISVILLE, KY – The 2023-24 got underway this weekend for Campbellsville with two meets on the road at the University of Findlay and the University of Louisville.
At Louisville,
Elijah Moore picked up where he left off last indoor season. Moore was in a three-way tie for 9th in the 60m at 6.97 seconds. Moore turned around later in the meet in the 200m with an indoor PR of 22.29, placing 4th.
Zachary Phelps earned his way to a top-15 finish in the 400m dash. Phelps was .74 seconds away from placing 9th with his time of 53.94.
After a successful season in 2022-23,
Ishan Cooper returned to the hurdles Saturday afternoon. Cooper placed 7th in the 60m hurdle finals at 8.46.
After earning NAIA All-American honors in cross country two weeks ago,
Isaac Kiprop made his debut on the track for the Tigers. Kiprop placed 3rd overall in the 3,000m run with a new school record time of 8:39.93.
Dakota Brady earned a top-ten finish in the 3,000m run at 8:59.72. Alex Steen led the way for the Tigers in the 1,000m run, placing 7th running a PR of 2:35.13.
Moving to the field events, the jumps earned the Tigers most of their points in the 2022-23 season. In the first meet of the season, they are off to a hot start. In the unseeded section of the high jump, Campbellsville had spots 2-4 locked down.
Kilan Macklin was the runner-up at 1.89,
Jack Hethcox earned 3rd also at 1.89, and
Zachary Mason was 4th overall with his height of 1.89.
Raylon Wilson placed 6th behind the trio, coming in at a height of 1.79m.
Jackson Hollinsworth shattered the pole vault school record in his debut for the Tigers. Hollinsworth placed 7th with a height clearance of 3.73m on his first attempt.
Macklin returned to his main event on Saturday in the long jump. He had an All-American season in 2022-23 and looks to add more in 2023-24. He placed 5th with a mark of 6.96m on his first attempt of the day.
CamRon Hamby was top-ten in the long jump with a distance of 6.69m.
The triple jump trio of
Corey Smith,
Matthew Mays, and Hamby punched their early tickets to the NAIA National Championship. Smith was the runner-up with his mark of 14.79m, Mays earned the bronze at 14.77m, and Hamby earned 5th at 14.60m.
Jonah Oliver narrowly missed a top-ten finish in the shot put on Saturday. Oliver was 11th with a mark of 12.12m. Oliver made a big leap in the weight throw with a 5th place throw of 13.91m off his 5th throw of the afternoon.
Cainan Daniels and
Malachi Crawford competed at the University of Findlay on Thursday and Friday this week in the heptathlon. Daniels earned 3,795 points, placing 9th, while Crawford was 10th overall with 3,764 points.
The Tigers return to the track on Friday, December 8th, when they travel to Marshall University.
