CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY – Lady Tigers were able to brush off the offseason rust in their first two games of the season and swept Asbury 7-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two of the home opener.
Asbury got in the scoreboard first in game one. In the top of the first, a single to right center scored the runner from third base to make the game 1-0.
Katy Chadwell was able to get the team out of an early jam with two runners left on base. The Eagles would score again in the top of the third inning on a single to right field, making it 2-0.
Chadwell found a rhythm for the rest of the game after the first three innings. Campbellsville took full control on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Lexi Miller hit her first grand slam of the year in the bottom of the third, pushing the Tigers ahead 4-2. Chadwell went to work in the top of the fourth with a 1-2-3 inning.
Riley Hurst hit a sac-fly RBI to score
Brea Croslin, making it 5-2. The second home run of the season came from
Madison Davis in the bottom of the fifth inning. She hit a ball out of left-center field to bring in the game's final two runs for the Lady Tigers, making the score 7-2.
Chadwell earned her first win of the season, striking out six batters off of 5.0 innings pitched.
In game two, Campbellsville got out to a quicker start than game one. In the bottom of the second, Davis hit her second home run of the afternoon to make the lead 2-0. Later in the inning,
Keely Bowling crossed home plate after
Caroline Pitcock grounded out to second to make the score 3-0.
The Eagles responded in the top of the third inning when
Courtney Patterson gave up her first home run of the season on a two-run shot from Sanders. Campbellsville would not score again until the bottom of the fifth inning off a Hurst solo homerun. Patterson was able to collect four strikeouts through the first six innings.
The final run of game two for the Lady Tigers came in the bottom of the sixth after Bowling reached first on an error by the shortstop that pushed
Ashby Murt in for the final run to make it 5-2.
Patterson pitched a complete game in game two and finished with five strikeouts.
Campbellsville will now head to Georgia for the Grizzly Classic this weekend. They will have a doubleheader against Georgia Gwinnett on Friday, February 17th, beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
