Records fall at Mid-South Conference Championships, Tigers place third overall

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Tigers came in third Friday afternoon at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

Elijah Moore got the podium warmed up for the Tigers in the 60m dash. Moore earned runner-up in the event in 6.93, besting his previous time and school record by .01 seconds. Campbell Rawlings placed 5th in the finals in 6.95. Ishan Cooper was the lone qualifier for the 60m hurdle finals. Cooper would end up 5th on the day in a time of 8.79.

Moore stood alone in the 200m standings for points. Moore placed 8th overall in a time of 22.46, only .04 off the school record. Maikyah Stowe dipped under the 50-second mark for the second time in his career in the open 400m. Stowe earned the silver medal on Friday in a new best and school record time of 49.35. Miah Chatmond brought in the bronze medal for Campbellsville in 50.16, and Zachary Phelps gave the team three points in 6th in 51.06.

Aiden Tucker gave Campbellsville three key points in the distance events. Tucker placed 6th overall in the 600m run with a time of 1:23.60, less than one second behind the school record. Tucker turned around in the 800m run to earn one point in the event with a time of 2:00.89. Aiden's final individual event of the day came in the 1,000m run, where he placed 6th in 2:37.51. Alex Steen joined Tucker in scoring in the event with an 8th-place finish of 2:43.13. 

Lukas Smithson gave Campbellsville his best in the one-mile run with a new PR of 4:27.62, placing 7th on the day. On back-to-back weekends, Shawn Little won the 5,000m run. Little set the school record in the event, which was previously held by his coach Corbin Harris. The new time of 15:05.45 was .04 seconds ahead of second place. Dakota Brady and Samuel Bennett ran for six points in the 5,000m. Brady placed 5th in 15:42.21, while Bennett broke the 16-minute barrier for the first time in his career in 15:52.51, placing 7th. Little was the lone scorer in the 3,000m run, placing 6th in 8:48.42. 

Andrew Evans and Trevor Hansen offered the team final points in individual distance events in the 3,000m racewalk. Evans crossed the line and earned the bronze medal in 17:08.66, while Hansen was 7th overall in 20:39.56. 

In the relays, the distance medley relay was in the hunt for the gold medal but fell off the pace in the late stages of the race earning the bronze. L. Smithson, Steen, Myles Smithson, and Noah Rogers completed the event in 10:33.51. The 4x800m relay ran three seconds slower than last weekend in their second-place effort. The team of Brady, L. Smithson, M. Smithson, and Ben Graf finished in 8:09.47.

The Tigers final running event came in the 4x400m relay that beat the school record by four seconds. Stowe, Chatmond, Phelps, and Joshua Morris crossed the line in second place with a time of 3:22.47. 

The jumps crew was not able to put as many points on the board as last weekend but were still able to hit podium finishes. In the long jump, Kilan Macklin earned the bronze medal in 7.11m, only .04 off his school record. Corey Smith and CamRon Hamby placed 7th and 8th in the event, with Smith hitting a mark of 6.60m while Hamby was at 6.56m. In the high jump, Hamby garnered 5th place in a height at 1.91m, and Macklin placed 7th also in 1.91m. 

18 points came from the triple jump for the Tigers. Hamby was the runner-up in the event with a new school record and NAIA A Standard mark of 14.54m. Matthew Mays was 3rd on the day in 14.37m, Jaron Hamby placed 6th overall in 13.31m, and Macklin finished out the scoring in the event, placing 8th in 12.92m. 

Seth Cartwright was the lone scorer for Campbellsville in the shot put. Cartwright gave Campbellsville four points in the event with a 5th-place finish mark of 13.35m.

Campbellsville will now have two weeks to prepare for the athletes who qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on March 2-4.
