PULASKI, Tenn. – #24 Lady Tiger Softball wrapped up the three-game series against UT Southern with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers swept the Firehawks in the doubleheader scoring a total of 24 runs between the two games.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 13, Tennessee Southern 6
Coming off the win from the first game of the series on Friday, the Lady Tigers started the game off with three runs in the first inning and the Firehawks sent in just one. After
Riley Hurst and
Lexi Miller ran across the plate for Campbellsville in the second, UT Southern outscored them by one, but the Lady Tigers still led 5-4.
UT Southern tied the game up in the third inning, but the Lady Tigers weren't done yet. In the top of the fourth inning, Campbellsville scored four runs. Bases were loaded and
Caroline Pitcock was walked bringing
Ashby Murt home.
Taylor Windell then hit a double and brought in
Payton Blades and
Lexi Miller. Kaleigh Tuck kept the bats going for Campbellsville and hit an RBI-single sending Pitcock in. In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Tigers tallied four more runs. The bases were full with Blades, Miller and Murt when Windell doubled and brought all three across home plate. Up next, the final run came from Windell after Tuck hit a double. The remaining frames were scoreless for both teams as Campbellsville won game one, 13-6.
While the Firehawks tallied more hits than the Lady Tigers (13-9), Campbellsville was able to see more results from their hits.
Courtney Patterson,
Allison Bush, and
Emily Reynolds were the pitchers for the Lady Tigers totaling 142 pitches and throwing a .542 strike percentage.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 11, Tennessee Southern 2
The Lady Tigers sought to sweep the series in the final game. The Firehawks were the first on the board, but the Lady Tigers tied up the game in the second frame as Windell ran in the first Campbellsville score. Pitcock homered in the top of the third bringing Blades along with her, giving the Lady Tigers two more runs in the inning.
The game was quiet on both sides for the fourth inning, but in the fifth frame the Lady Tigers ignited their hitting scoring four runs with four hits. The first of those four came from Miller after Tuck singled. Then, Keeley Bowling doubled and brought Tuck and Blades across home plate.
Riley Hurst then singled and sent
Madison Davis home. The Lady Tigers went into the final two innings with a 7-1 lead.
In the final inning, the Firehawks got another run, but that was only after an additional four runs from Campbellsville. Hurst, Murt, and
Payton Baum were on base as
Camille Conkright reached first on a Tennessee Southern error which Hurst converted into a run. The bases were loaded again as
Cassie Finley reached first off an error and Murt came home. The Firehawks then committed another error and
Selynna Metcalfe made it to first and Baum went in. Lady Tiger Softball won the third game, 11-2.
Tennessee Southern totaled nine hits compared to the Lady Tigers' 11 hits, but the Firehawks scored only two runs from those hits as Campbellsville sent in 11.
Katy Chadwell was the lone pitcher for Campbellsville in the second game game. She threw 100 pitches, four strikeouts, and no walks.
Lady Tiger Softball will be back in action Monday, March 13 when they travel to face Midway University.
