CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tiger softball team hosted the Battle of Highway 55 Thursday afternoon. After two hard-fought contests, Campbellsville split the day.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 8, Lindsey Wilson 10
Campbellsville began the contest with five runs within the first three innings.
Keely Bowling's homerun fashioned a two-run RBI to place the Blue Raiders at a substantial deficit. Lindsey Wilson knocked off one run, but not enough to gain the lead.
The Blue Raiders struck back with a swift three runs to shorten their discrepancy. However, Campbellsville did not let up their offensive pressure in the latter half of the fifth inning. After
Payton Blades singled down the left field line,
Caroline Pitcock sent a ball over the left-field wall for a two-run RBI.
Lindsey Wilson strung together a handful of pivotal hits to tack on five more runs to their score. This was the first moment of the match that Campbellsville was battling from behind. The Lady Tigers went up to the plate one last time and were able to add one run to the board.
Lexi Miller collected a solo trot around the bases, but the Lady Tigers could not muster any more runs.
Campbellsville's four pitchers,
Katy Chadwell,
Allison Bush,
Payton Blades, and
Emily Reynolds threw 121 total pitches and poised a .678 strike percentage. Offensively, Pitcock led her team with three hits out of her four at-bats and three RBIs.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 8, Lindsey Wilson 4
The Blue Raiders placed the Lady Tigers at a three run shortfall to begin the contest. Campbellsville tallied a hit, but were unable to scratch back. The Lady Tigers stopped a bases-loaded rally as Pitcock dove out for the ball and subsequently touched her base. After tagging up, Pitcock sent a ball over to first for the final out.
In the bottom of the third, Riley Hurt doubled right over shortstop to bat in
Morgan Carter. The Blue Raiders composed a double play to end Campbellsville's time at the plate. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth,
Taylor Windell homered to amass a two-run homerun. Windell's hit cut the Lady Tigers' discrepancy to just a single run.
Pitcock homered to tie up the game in the bottom of the sixth. Hits delivered by Bowling and Miller batted in four more runs to increase the Blue Raiders' trail. The Lady Tigers held off the Blue Raiders' comeback attempt for the victory.
Katy Chadwell was the winning pitcher as she allowed no runs in her four innings pitched.
Campbellsville will continue their series with Lindsey Wilson Saturday, March 18th. The Lady Tigers host the contest at Hord Softball Field beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
