SIOUX CITY,, IA. - Campbellsville fell in the quarterfinal round to Clarke University Wednesday afternoon 76-51.
The Clark University Pride is part of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. They have gone 29-4 this season (19-3 in conference) with averages of 43% from the field, 33.7% from three, and 73.4% at the free-throw line.
The Pride made the first basket of the game. Clarke's strong defense did not allow the Lady Tigers to score in the first three minutes of the game, bringing Campbellsville to a 10-point deficit. Courtney Pritchett broke the Pride's streak with a three-point jumper, followed by a bucket from Kaitlynn Wilks. Sarah Sutton came off the bench with a much-needed three-point bucket. Elizabeth Bertram landed a three-point jump shot in less than one minute on the clock. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers trailed the Pride 26-18.
Clarke scored the first basket of the second quarter. Kayla Luebbe scored the first bucket for the Lady Tigers in the following minutes. Bertram stood at the charity stripe, going two for two and propelling Campbellsville forward. Halfway through the second quarter, Sutton landed a three-pointer bringing the Lady Tigers within five points from the Pride. In the last couple of minutes of the game, Maddie Nalley came through with a layup. At the end of the first half, the Lady Tigers saw a 14-point deficit, still trailing the Pride, 42-28.
Going into the last twenty, Bertram and Sutton led the Lady Tigers with 6 points each. Campbellsville shot 30.8% from the field and went 8-9 at the free-throw line. Clarke shot 53.1% from the field and went 5-6 at the free-throw line.
The Lady Tigers scored the first points of the third quarter with a basket from Pritchett. Bailey Pedigo and Wilks both landed buckets, earning a few needed points for Campbellsville. Maddy Boyle landed a three-point jump shot with one minute left on the clock. At the closing of the third quarter, the Lady Tigers were down 62-41.
Clarke made the first basket of the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers stood at the charity stripe on multiple occasions. Sutton landed another three-point jumper. Clarke's offense remained strong, continuing to score time after time. With less than one minute on the clock, Campbellsville saw a 25-point deficit. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers lost to the Pride, 76-51.
By the end of the game, the Lady Tigers finished with 15-of-55 from the field (27.3%) and 6-of-20 from the three-point line (30%), while the Pride finished with 25-of-61 from the field (41%) and 5-of-17 from the three-point line (29.4%).
