CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Tigers wrapped up their three-game series against the Georgetown Tigers Sunday afternoon. Campbellsville rallied late in the game, but it wasn't enough for the win as Tiger Baseball fell 12-11.
Tiger Baseball didn't see any runs in the game's first two innings. Georgetown got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Campbellsville continued to struggle at the plate through the third frame. Georgetown took a six-run lead over the Tigers after scoring four in the bottom of the third. Campbellsville also totaled three errors through the first three innings.
Campbellsville scored their first run to start the fourth inning. Chad McCann got the first hit for the Tigers and advanced to second after Jacob White got the second hit. McCann came across home plate after Henry Wright reached first on a fielder's choice. The Georgetown Tigers added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 7-1.
The fifth and sixth innings were quiet for both teams. The Tigers tallied two hits in the bottom of the sixth but saw no reward from those. In the top of the seventh frame, Campbellsville scored their second run. Grant McQueary hit a sacrifice fly that brought Jacob Balsley home. Georgetown scored three more runs in the seventh, jumping their lead to 10-2.
Campbellsville rallied back from their deficit and scored nine runs in the top of the eighth frame. Those runs brought the Tigers back from a near run rule to one over Georgetown. McCann wrapped up that inning with a home run to left field and brought two other Tigers home with him. Georgetown scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take back the lead heading into the final inning. Georgetown ended the game by getting three quick outs.
Zion Payne started on the mound for Campbellsville. He pitched 2.2 innings throwing five strikeouts and four walks with six runs scored. Luis Lopez came into pitch for Payne in the third inning and threw one strikeout and one walk with one run scored. PJ Ledesma pitched three innings, throwing one strikeout and Zack Bromstead pitched one inning, also throwing one strikeout. The Tigers went 2-3 (.667) with bases loaded compared to Georgetown's 0-0 (.000).
Tiger Baseball will be back in action Friday, March 24th against Freed-Hardeman University. The game is home at HIG Field with the first pitch at 5 p.m. ET.
