PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger Softball wrapped up their three-game series with the Pikeville Bears Saturday afternoon. The bats got hot early for Campbellsville as they won by five runs.
The Lady Tigers were first on the scoreboard in the first inning. The initial run came from
Lexi Miller after
Payton Blades singled to left field. In the top of the second frame, the Lady Tiger bats were heating up. Campbellsville scored three runs as
Taylor Windell,
Ashby Murt, and
Morgan Carter came across home plate. Murt and Carter's runs came from Miller's two RBI double to right center.
Through the rest of the second and the third innings there were no runs score by either team. The Lady Tigers took the five-run lead in the top of the fourth inning scoring one run.
Keely Bowling came across home plate after
Riley Hurst doubled to left field for the RBI. Pikeville sent in their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth and their second run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Campbellsville went into the final two frames with a three-run lead. With two outs on the board,
Caroline Pitcock was up to bat. She double to left field which resulted in a three-RBI hit and bringing in
Camille Conkright, Murt, and Hurst. The Lady Tigers were unable to add more runs in the seventh frame as the Bears looked to close the six-run gap. UPIKE scored one more in the final inning, but the Lady Tigers were victorious 8-3.
Katy Chadwell was the lone pitcher for Campbellsville. She threw three strikeouts and three walks with 100 pitches. The Lady Tigers racked up 13 hits compared to Pikeville's five, but Campbellsville committed two late errors as UPIKE had none.
Lady Tiger Softball will be back in action Wednesday, March 29
th when they will face Union College. The game is home at Hord Softball Field with first pitch at 2 p.m. ET.
