CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University baseball team hosted the University of Tennessee Southern Friday afternoon. The Tigers started the series in a sun-shining win over the Firehawks, but the storm clouds rolled in after the second frame in game two, postponing it to Saturday.
Zane Morrison stood on the hill for the Tigers to begin the day. Morrison collected his first two strikeouts of the contest within the first three batters. However, in the top of the second inning, the Firehawks gained the upper hand bringing a run across.
UT Southern tacked on another run to their lead in the next inning. In the Campbellsville's time in the batter's box, they worked at the plate to gain a run of their own. Lucas Banta took a pitch in exchange for a spot on first base. The Tigers made even more progress with their time at the plate to push a runner around to third base. Jorge Gonzalez poised an RBI as the Tigers decreased their discrepancy by one.
Campbellsville jumped out again in the bottom of the fifth inning. After suffering an out, the Tigers composed three runs to regain the lead. Jacob White doubled to left field to place himself on the bases. Gonzalez collected his second RBI as he traded places with White. Chad McCann followed Gonzalez's tactic as he switched places with the runner too, notching another score for the Tigers. Campbellsville sent in another consecutive run as Henry Wright brought in McCann.
In the contest's final moments, Tennessee Southern scored another run but did not get away with the win. Campbellsville finished with a 4-3 win over the Firehawks. The Tigers attempted to fit in another game, but lightning halted the contest.
Morrison struck out six batters in six innings for the win and reliever Aaron Hammer came in to get the save.
Campbellsville will continue the series tomorrow to finish the rest of game two and get game three started. The remainder of today's second competition begins at 1 p.m. ET.
