CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #23 Lady Tigers faced off against their conference foe the Shawnee State Bears in what was supposed to be a doubleheader Friday afternoon. Campbellsville won the first contest handily but thunderstorms delayed the planned second game to the next day.
The Lady Tigers opened up the day a bit slow with only one hit in the first inning compared to the Bears' two. That trend would continue as no one put anything on the scoreboard until the bottom of the third when Campbellsville's offense got a spark and sent in four runs.
Kaeleigh Tuck was the first to make it to base with a beautiful single down the right field line. The Lady Tigers kept it moving with a
Riley Hurst sacrifice bunt and then a single to left field from
Lexi Miller. With
Caroline Pitcock on from a walk,
Taylor Windell stepped up to the plate and brought home two runners with her single. Ultimately, the Lady Tigers had Miller, Tuck, Pitcock, and Windell all score.
The Bears responded with a score of their own in the top of the fifth bringing the score to 4-1. In rebuttal,
Payton Blades singled straight up the middle and followed that by advancing to second off of a wild pitch. Subsequently, Camile Conkright (running for Blades),
Ashby Murt (reaching on an error), and
Keely Bowling (walked) loaded the bases. A double from Tuck got her three RBI's and pushed the score to 7-1 for Campbellsville.
Miller put a shot over the fence in the bottom of the sixth, her team-leading sixth of the season. Then, Pitcock, Blades, and
Madison Davis all singled, scoring the deciding run at 9-1.
Katy Chadwell pitched all six innings and allowed only five hits from the Bears and one run. She also had two strike outs. Miller, Blades, and Tuck all had two hits each to lead the way for Campbellsville.
The Lady Tigers were able to get one inning of play of the second game in before the postponement. The score of that game was 0-0 and will be continued at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 15th. That contest will be followed by the third and concluding game of the series.
