Davis ends both wins over Bears with walk-offs

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #23 Lady Tigers played the final two games of their series against Shawnee State University Saturday afternoon. Campbellsville swept the Bears, both punctuated by Madison Davis' walk-offs.

These were the last home games of the Lady Tigers' 2023 season, so the seniors were recognized before the contests. Those graduating seniors were: Davis, Riley Hurst, Payton Blades, Lexi Miller, and Addie Young.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 2, Shawnee State 1

The first game continued in the top of the second inning due to the lightning delay from yesterday's game. The Lady Tigers scored their first run in the bottom of the third when Miller ran home after a Blades triple.

Shawnee State tied up the game in the top of the sixth inning with a solo homerun. The game went into the seventh inning still tied and it was up to the Lady Tigers to score another run to avoid extra innings. The senior, Davis managed just that with a homerun of her own.

Blades paved the way for the team with two hits (a single and a triple) while Davis not only sent one over the fence, but also led the team in assists with four. Courtney Patterson pitched the entire game and had four strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 8, Shawnee State 7

The second game of the doubleheader began with Shawnee State striking first. The Lady Tigers tied things up in the bottom of the second inning with a run from Ashby Murt off a sacrifice fly from Miller. Campbellsville then took a three-run lead with Kaeleigh Tuck, Hurst, and Blades coming across home plate.

The Bears knotted the game in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs at 4-4. In the top of the fifth, Shawnee State sent home one more to retake the lead. Campbellsville pushed past them with a two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth sending in three runs. Camille Conkright (pinch running for Keely Bowling), Hurst (off her single), and Tuck (off her single too) scored those runs from Hurst's and then Miller's hits.

Shawnee State tied the game once again after notching two runs in the top of the sixth. In the top of the seventh frame, Allison Bush came in to relieve Katy Chadwell and threw two strikeouts to send the Lady Tigers out to bat. The game went into extra innings though and in the bottom of the eighth Davis sent Taylor Windell home for the winning run with a strike to right center.

In game two, the Lady Tigers went 8-16 (.500) scoring with two outs compared to the Bears going 7-19 (.308). Campbellsville threw 117 pitches with a .701 strike percentage compared to SSU's 147 and a .646 strike percentage.

Lady Tiger Softball will be back in action Tuesday, April 18th as they face the Bearcats of Brescia University. The game will be in Owensboro, Kentucky with the first pitch at 4 p.m. ET.
