Lady Tigers falter first, explode late in game two to split against Saints

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The #23 Lady Tiger Softball faced Thomas More University in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon where the Saints took game one after the Lady Tigers struggled to get their bats going. Campbellsville found their groove in the second game and then absolutely detonated in the seventh inning to rebound for the win.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, Thomas More 8

The game started scoreless through the first three innings, but both teams tallied some hits. The Saints were the first on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth frame. The Lady Tigers continued to struggled batting, only having one hit through six innings. Thomas More sent two more runs home in the fifth.

The Saints ended the game in the sixth frame after scoring four and took game one of the series. The Lady Tigers went 0-7 (.000) with runners on base as the Saints went 8-18 (.444). Campbellsville had runners in scoring position three times but saw no reward from that as Thomas More went 6-14 (.429).

Katy Chadwell and Allison Bush were the two pitchers for the Lady Tigers and together they threw 142 pitches compared to Thomas More's 89 pitches. The Saints threw a .618 strike percentage and Campbellsville had a .620 strike percentage.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 16, Thomas More 5

The Lady Tigers began the second game by getting their first three runs of the day. Riley Hurst (single), Lexi Miller (walk), and Payton Blades (single) all came across home plate to give Campbellsville an early lead with efforts from a couple sacrifice plays. Thomas More was able to match those three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Knotted at three's, Campbellsville reclaimed the lead after Hurst crossed home from a Blades' double. They were able to hold Thomas More scoreless through the second and third frames. In the top of the fourth inning, Miller scored her second run of the contest with a solo homerun, giving the Lady Tigers the 5-3 advantage. However, Campbellsville went into the final three innings seeking to reclaim the lead after the Saints tied the game up once again.

Camille Conkright (pinch running from a Keely Bowling double) scored the sixth Lady Tiger run off a Hurst triple in the top of the sixth frame. In the final inning, Keely Bowling smacked a grand slam bringing Madison Davis, Taylor Windell, and Kaeleigh Tuck all home, bringing the game to 10-5. Ashby Murt added to the Lady Tiger advantage after scoring on a wild pitch. Following that, Miller came across home plate once again and Blades went home too, putting Campbellsville up eight runs. Then, Caroline Pitcock homered to right center and brought Tuck and Windell home with her, piling on the total. The Lady Tigers wrapped up the game scoring ten runs in the seventh frame and getting three quick outs.

Campbellsville tallied ten hits and 16 runs compared to Thomas More's six hits and five runs in game two. The Lady Tiger pitchers threw 127 with a .504 strike percentage as the Saints' pitchers threw 172 pitches with a .512 strike percentage.
