CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – #23 Lady Tiger Softball kicked off their three-game series against the #3 University of the Cumberlands Patriots with a single game Friday afternoon. Campbellsville couldn't catch up to the seven runs scored in the second inning by the Patriots and lost the game 11-3.
The first frame saw one hit for each team but both went scoreless into the second. The Patriots scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second inning with just one out on the board. Cumberlands sent in five more runs before the third out came, taking an early 7-0 lead over Campbellsville. The Lady Tigers couldn't make anything happen to wrap up the inning.
Allison Bush came into to pitch for
Katy Chadwell to start the third frame. After the first out, Cumberlands scored another run. After the Lady Tigers got the second out, the Patriots scored their ninth run while Campbellsville remained scoreless. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Campbellsville had bases loaded with no outs and
Morgan Carter was up to bat. She was walked and
Caroline Pitcock came across home plate for the first Lady Tiger run.
Brea Croslin reached first base for back-to-back walks and
Payton Blades came home for the second run.
Kaeleigh Tuck hit a sacrifice fly to center field and brought home
Taylor Windell as the Lady Tigers kept gradually cutting into the Patriots' advantage.
Midway through the top of the fifth,
Emily Reynolds came into pitch for the Lady Tigers. Cumberlands scored two more runs in the fifth frame. Campbellsville didn't collect any runs, which wrapped up the game.
The Patriots got nine hits in the game and were able to turn those into 11 runs as the Lady Tigers tallied six hits and just three runs. Campbellsville also committed three errors while Cumberlands went error-free for the game. The collective pitchers for CU threw 117 pitches with a .615 strike percentage as UC pitchers threw 96 pitches and a .573 strike percentage.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday, April 8
th to wrap up the series with Cumberlands in a doubleheader. The games will be at Hord Softball Field with the first game starting at 2 p.m. ET.
