CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- #23 Lady Tiger Softball wrapped up their three-game series with the #3 University of the Cumberlands Patriots Saturday with a doubleheader. Campbellsville struggled batting in both games as the Patriots swept the doubleheader and the series.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, Cumberlands 1
The first game started with a Patriot runner in scoring position with one out on the board. Keeley Bowling made a huge double play to get the final two outs and the Lady Tigers looked to get their bats going. In the top of the second frame, Campbellsville got another defensive stop and
Katy Chadwell through back-to-back strikeouts. The teams went scoreless through the first two innings.
In the top of the third frame, the Patriots were the first on the scoreboard taking a one-run lead over the Lady Tigers. The score remained at 1-0 through the remainder of the game.
The game was close to even throughout every aspect of it but a notable comparison was Cumberlands going 4-7 (.571) on their lead off batters and Campbellsville only 1-7 (.143).
Katy Chadwell was the lone pitcher for the Lady Tigers in this game throwing 118 pitches compared to Cumberlands' 90 pitches. Chadwell threw a .602 strike percentage while the pitcher for UC threw a .656 strike percentage.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 1, Cumberlands 9
Game two of the doubleheader started with the Patriots hitting the scoreboard early as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Tigers continued to struggle with their batting and getting runs in as they remained scoreless through the first three frames.
The University of the Cumberlands added one run to their total in the third and two runs in the fourth inning to give them a 5-0 lead over Campbellsville. In the bottom of the fourth,
Lexi Miller scored the first Campbellsville run of the day hitting a homerun over left field, her fifth of the season. Cumberlands regained their five-run lead in the fifth inning as they scored their sixth run of the game. Their seventh run came later that inning as they led the Lady Tigers 7-1.
In the final frame, Cumberlands added two more runs taking a 9-1 lead over the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville couldn't make anything happen to force extra innings or get the win and fell to the Patriots in game two. Cumberlands had one pitcher enter the circle while Campbellsville had three. Cumberlands threw 115 pitches and Campbellsville threw 160.
Lady Tiger Softball will be back in action Wednesday, April 12
th as they travel to face Union College. The game will be in Barbourville, Kentucky with the first pitch at 3 p.m. ET.
