WILLIAMSBURG, KY – After multiple weather delays and humid conditions over the past two days, Campbellsville finishes out the Mid-South Conference Championships in fourth.
The Tigers battled through four different weather delays on day one on Sunday, pushing events back nearly five hours from some start times. On day one, the 4x800m relay got the points started on the board for the team with a 5th-place time of 8:12.39.
Noah Rogers,
Dakota Brady,
Alexander Steen, and
Shawn Little were able to put together a decent start to the meet on the relay.
Samuel Bennett followed up in the 10,000m run with a 6th-place finish of 33:40.91.
Lukas Smithson rounded out day one track by scoring in the 3,000m steeplechase. Smithson placed 5th with a PR of 9:54.10.
Day one field events consisted of the long jump and hammer throw.
Jonah Oliver gave Campbellsville two points in the hammer throw with his 7th-place PR mark of 42.26m. In the long jump, the Tiger racked up nine points.
Matthew Mays led the way with a 5th place jump of 6.51m,
CamRon Hamby followed directly behind in 6th at 6.49m, and
Kilan Macklin was 7th in the long jump at 6.40m.
Day two presented much different conditions than day one. Campbellsville now had to battle the leftover humidity that the overnight storms brought to town.
Fredrick Evans was the first athlete for Campbellsville to earn a podium finish. Evans was the runner-up in the 5,000m racewalk with a time of 27:42.25.
The 4x100m relay finished across the line in 4th overall, narrowly missing the bronze medal in 42.34.
Ishan Cooper was the next Tiger to score points and make his way to the podium on Monday. Cooper qualified for the finals in the 110m hurdles. Cooper made a move over the final three hurdles to lean to a silver medal and PR of 15.01.
Zachary Phelps has been on the cusp of the sub-50 mark all season in the 400m. Monday afternoon, the rookie finally broke that barrier. Phelps earned the bronze medal in the 400m with a PR of 49.77.
Miah Chatmond crossed the line in 8th overall in 50.79, giving Campbellsville one point.
In the finals of the 100m,
Campbell Rawlings was able to cross the line in 6th at 11.04. Rawlings set a school record and collegiate-best time in the 100m last weekend at Kentucky of 10.76. The final track event that saw Tiger points was the 5,000m run, with
Shawn Little placing 4th in 15:20.02.
The largest number of points came out of the triple jump on the weekend. 16 points came from the event, with
Corey Smith highlighting a bronze medal mark of 14.77m. Mays was 4th at 14.58m, C. Hamby was 5th at 14.50m, and
Jaron Hamby brought in the final point in the event of 12.87m in 8th.
Hamby earned one final round of points in the meet from the high jump. Hamby was able to clear 2.00m this weekend and earn the bronze medal in the event.
Seth Cartwright gave the Tigers two points in his shot-put attempt over the two days. Cartwright was 7th overall in the shot-put with a mark of 13.90m.
Campbellsville ended up placing 4th overall with 85.50 team points. Cumberland University won the Mid-South Conference team title with 225.50, University of the Cumberlands were runner-up with 214.50 points, and Lindsey Wilson was third with 169.50 points.
Campbellsville will have short rest as they are now traveling to the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 10-12 in Columbia, SC.
