Tigers roar past Eagles in sweep

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted the Midway Eagles on Thursday night at Gosser Gymnasium. The Tigers notched their fourth win in a row with a 3-0 final.

Molly Shannon landed two kills in the first minutes of play. Halfway through the first frame, both teams stayed within a couple of points from one another, with Campbellsville remaining in the lead. Camryn Rich's agile assists kept her teammates, such as Morgan Furness and Hannah McGill, scoring kill after kill against Midway. The Tigers' control at the net, alongside their arduous offensive efforts, led them to win the first set 25-21.

The second set started with a kill from the Eagles, quickly matched by a kill from Shannon, assisted by Rich. Despite that, Midway were ahead with a three-point advantage in the opening minutes of the second frame. However, a service ace by Taylor Thacker tied the scoreboard at seven. From this point forward, the Tigers did not lose their hold on the lead, staying a couple of points ahead of the Eagles. Rich landed two kills that propelled the Tigers forward, widening Campbellsville's lead. Thacker's avid assists kept her teammates landing kills and winning the second set, 25-21.

Shannon opened the third set with three back-to-back kills, followed by a kill from Cierra Merrick, assisted by Rich. The Eagles struck back with a kill of their own, but this did not deter the Tigers from holding onto the lead. Four attack errors from Midway's caused Campbellsville to widen their lead, followed by kills from Merrick and Shannon, bringing the Tigers to a four-point advantage on the scoreboard. The Eagles scored a few points in their favor, but not enough to bring down the Tigers from the lead. With a kill from Rich, the Tigers won the third set 25-19, taking the match 3-0.

Campbellsville finished Thursday's match with a hitting percentage of .238, five aces, and seven blocks, compared to Midway's .131 hitting percentage, four aces, and three blocks. Shannon led the team with 19 kills (her season high), Thacker with 18 digs (her season high as well), and Rich with 29 assists.

The Tigers will be back in action, hosting the University of the Cumberlands Patriots on September 19th, beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
