HUNTINGTON, WV – Sprints led the way for the Tigers to open up the 2024 calendar over the weekend at Marshall.
Elijah Moore and
Maikyah Stowe returned to campus with wins in their back pockets. Moore earned the early victory, winning the 60m in 6.91 after qualifying in the prelims at 6.94. Teammate
Chance Lucas was close behind in 2nd running 6.93. Moore breaks his previous school record set last season by .02 seconds.
Stowe ran away late in the 200m, beating out his competition by .24 with a school record time of 22.28. Thar record beats Moore's time from earlier this season by .01. Lucas earned another podium finish with a 3rd place run of 22.55.
Darionta Bell was less than one second behind a victory in the open 300m. Bell was 4th overall in 35.91, while 1st place was only .81 seconds ahead.
Stowe and
Zachary Phelps went 2-3 in the 400m. Stowe was the runner-up in the event with his time of 51.08, while Phelps earned the bronze in 51.19.
Brandon Irvin and
Max Weston both finished in scoring position for Campbellsville in the 600m. Irvin was 7th in 1:31.34, and Weston was 8th in 1:31.21.
Alex Steen made his season debut in the 800m run. Steen was 6th in the race with an early indoor PR of 2:02.84.
Van Thrasher and
Ishan Cooper gave the Tigers their first 1-2 finish of the day in the 60m hurdles. Thrasher punched his ticket to the NAIA National Championship with his time of 8.29. Cooper already landed his ticket earlier in the season but improved his standard time by .01 with his finish of 8.30.
Gregory Carr finished top-five in the event in 8.58.
In the field events,
Raylon Wilson finished in a three-way tie for 4th place. Wilson cleared 1.80m on his first attempt of the day.
Jackson Hollinsworth was 5th in the pole vault for Campbellsville with a height at 3.70 on his first attempt.
Kilan Macklin finished 7th in his main event of the long jump on Saturday. Macklin hit a mark of 7.07 back in December also at Marshall. On Saturday, he jumped 6.82 on his third attempt of the afternoon.
Seth Cartwright made his season debut in the shot put. Cartwright was 6th overall, with his last throw being the best throw of the day at 13.89m.
The Tigers will now look ahead to Saturday when they will travel to Centre College for the Centre Invitational.
