DANVILLE, KY – Frigid temperatures outside did not dampen the competition inside at the Centre Indoor Showcase, with the Tigers running away with the meet win with 211.5 team points.
Campbellsville started strong in the sprints on Saturday. 19 points alone came from the 60m.
Elijah Moore led
Chance Lucas and
JaQuez Campbell in the finals. Moore won the event in 6.94, Lucas was 4th overall in 7.08, and Campbell was 5th at 7.17. 26 more points were added to the team score out of the 200m.
Zachary Phelps picked up his first collegiate win with a time of 22.63,
Darionta Bell was in the same heat as Phelps placed 2nd in 22.85, Campbell earned the bronze in 23.09, and Lucas was 7th at 23.14.
On the distance side of the track, the Tigers boasted 27 points from the 1,000m run.
Myles Smithson earned his first collegiate victory at the line in a PR of 2:39.37, while teammate
Alexander Steen was a close 2nd in 2:39.88.
Dakota Brady was the 3rd place finisher in the race in 2:40.11.
Max Weston and
Nathanael Turner were the final two athletes in for Campbellsville. Weston was 7th in 2:48.02, while Turner was 8th at 2:50.83.
Myles earned his second PR of the meet in the mile. He was 4th at the line in 4:30.58. Brother
Lukas Smithson came in 8th, earning the team one point in 4:38.93. All-American
Isaac Kiprop made his season debut in the 5,000m, earning 2nd overall in 15:42.00.
Aaron Smith, Ethan Johnson, and
Samuel Larson all finished 6-8 for the Tigers. Smith was 6th in 16:20.04, Johnson placed 7th in 16:29.57, and Larson rounded out the group in 8th at 16:43.58.
Ishan Cooper stole the show in the 60m hurdles. Cooper already hit the NAIA Standard earlier in the season. He hit an NAIA A Standard and school record in the preliminary round with a time of 8.21. In the finals, he won the event in 8.23.
Van Thrasher, who will also be joining Cooper at the NAIA Championships, placed 2nd in 8.32.
Gregory Carr completed the podium sweep for the Tigers, placing 3rd in 8.60. Zahnte Brown earned two points for the team, placing 7th in 9.97.
Campbellsville rounded out the track events with one final victory in the 4x400m relay. Phelps, Bell,
Maikyah Stowe, and Alexandar Boyd, Jr. won the event in 3:31.69.
In the field events, jumps continue to be a key highlight for Campbellsville.
CamRon Hamby won the high jump with a height of 2.00m on his second attempt of the afternoon.
Zachary Mason was 4th overall, with a height of 1.90m. Thrasher was 5th, tying Mason's height of 1.90 but cleared it on his second attempt.
Raylon Wilson was the final point scorer for the Tigers in the event, placing 6th at 1.85m.
Jackson Hollinsworth set the school record in the pole vault, placing 6th on his first attempt of the day in 3.94m.
In the long jump, Campbellsville had a meet-high of 29 points from the event.
Kilan Macklin tied his school record in the event of 7.15 on the final attempt of the day. Campbell punched his ticket to the NAIA Championships with his mark of 7.10m, placing 2nd. Thrasher was 3rd overall in 6.69m. Carr hit his best jump of the day on his third attempt of 6.45m.
David Young was .01m behind Carr with a mark of 6.44m on his third attempt of the day.
Corey Smith, Macklin, and
Jaron Hamby finished out the points in the jumps for Campbellsville in the triple jump. Smith won the event on his second jump of the day at 14.03m, Macklin was 4th at 13.02m, and Hamby was 5th overall, with his best jump coming from his first attempt of the day at 12.64m.
Seth Cartwright and
Jonah Oliver were the lone scorers in the throws for the Tigers. Cartwright placed 2nd on his final throw of the day at 13.68m in the shot put. Oliver was 6th overall in the weight throw with a mark of 13.26m coming off his second throw of the day.
Campbellsville will return to the track on Friday, January 26th, when they travel to the University of Indianapolis.
