CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Following a tough Mid-South Conference loss to the University of the Cumberlands, the Tigers bounced back when they hosted the rival Georgetown Tigers Thursday night, snagging their second sweep of the opposing Tigers of the season.
Opening the first set, the rival Tigers struck first, but the Tigers' were not deterred and found their groove. A kill from
Erica Rosario Calderon assisted by
Jana Krstic put the Tigers over Georgetown and started a 10-3 to push the Tigers in front. Though the orange Tigers tried to claw their way back, Campbellsville's offensive pressure was too much. Calderon ended things with a kill awarding the Tigers set one, 25-17.
Campbellsville was on the scoreboard first due to an error from the opposing Tigers to begin the second set. Georgetown kept the game even with the Tigers at the start, but it did not take long for Campbellsville to get hot. The Tigers'
Cierra Merrick,
Libby Erwin, and Calderon blocked the rival Tigers from stealing away, catching fire on their attacks. Campbellsville grabbed the second set, 25-15.
The rival Tigers began the third with a kill, but Merrick responded with a kill assisted by
Emily Aabye. After setting up her teammate, Aabye found a hole in the rival Tigers' defense and snagged a kill of her own. Calderon and Merrick continued the offensive pressure with consecutive kills against Georgetown. The Tigers proved too much and too efficient for the orange Tigers, winning the third and final set, 25-10.
The Tigers will be back in action Thursday, October 17th, continuing conference play by hosting the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. ET.
- The Tigers bested the away team's kill efficient by nearly 30% (.378 vs. .082). The home team also had ten huge aces compared to Georgetown's three.
- Campbellsville had an outstanding 14 block assists. Brooke Hager and Calderon assisted in seven of the 14 blocks.
- Merrick and Aabye led the Tigers will 11 kills each, Krstic had the team-high 33 assists, Elif Akcivi aced four times, and Jaden Francis paced the squad with her 14 digs
- The Tigers historical record versus Georgetown is 18 wins and 34 losses. However, tonight's win marks the 10th win in a row for Campbellsville.
