CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #12 Lady Tigers hosted the #1 University of the Cumberlands Patriots on Friday night. One team was resigned to leave their undefeated streak on the field, Cumberlands' header goal in the last few minutes of the contest cost Campbellsville their reigning season, losing the game, 1-0.
The Lady Tigers came onto the field with back-to-back shots from Momo Chogyoji, Merel Houweling, and Amelie Metheis. However, the Patriots' goalie sternly stopped their attempts to score. Johanna Stahl's defensive hits continuously returned the ball to the Lady Tigers' possession. At the end of the first half, both teams were yet to score.
Cumberlands came into the second half with heavy offensive strikes, collecting shot after shot as the game continued to unfold. Milly Shakespeare's saves prevented them from any successful attempts. With less than ten minutes remaining, the Patriots made it to the scoreboard with a header goal from a corner kick.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action traveling to Danville, Kentucky to battle the Centre College Colonels on Tuesday, October 15th beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
- Campbellsville outperformed Cumberlands in a few statistical categories of the game, most significantly shots (14-9) and shots on goal (5-3).
- Chogyoji led the Lady Tigers with four shots and two shots on goal. Shakespeare collected two saves throughout tonight's match.
- This game marks Campbellsville's third consecutive loss against Cumberlands; the last time the Lady Tigers won against the Patriots took place during the 2022 season Mid-South Conference Tournament.
