WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to battle against the number three seed Cumberland University Phoenix to advance to the Mid-South Conference Final. Ending a hard-fought battle, the Tigers fell to the Phoenix in penalty kicks, 5-4.
With a slow start in the first half, both teams competed to control the field and possess the ball. The fight between them gradually progressed as the Tigers and the Phoenix could not find the back of the net. At the conclusion of the first half, both teams left the scoreboard scoreless.
Campbellsville and Cumberland were still in a scoreless battle as time passed. Cumberland's Ao Yamada and Kadisha Martina each took close shots on goal, but Campbellsville's goalie, Milly Shakespeare, made crucial saves to keep her team in the match. With only minutes left in regular time, neither team could find a way on the scoreboard.
After remaining scoreless through two overtime periods, the match went to penalty kick opportunities. Shakespeare saved one penalty kick, but it was insufficient to clinch the victory.
