Point-for-point game ends in favor of the Grenadiers, 88-84

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers matched against the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers Friday afternoon for their final contest in Cumberlands Classic. Grenadiers' hot second-half shooting and heavy defensive pressure bested the Tigers, 88-84.

The Grenadiers opened the game with a layup shortly into the game. However, Jay Milburn responded with a triple, giving the Tigers the lead. Though the Grenadiers immediately responded, Dalton Kramer retaliated with a three of his own. Following Kramer's three, KJ Banks laid it in to push the lead to three, but the Grenadiers did not seem to go away. After a James Jewell three-pointer, Campbellsville took a six-point lead over halfway through the half. In the remaining five minutes, a Cobe Penny lay in, and a Milburn jumper pushed the Tigers' advantage to 11. However, a late run from the Grenadiers put Campbellsville on top by five going into the half, 39-35.

The first basket of the second half was scored by the Tigers, with Milburn finishing around the rim. After finishing through contact and completing the three-point play, Kramer pushed the Tigers' lead to nine. Withstanding the Grenadiers' defensive pressure, Ra Briggs knocked down a three to prevent Indiana Southeast from regaining the lead. However, the Grenadiers had consecutive scoring trips to push them over the Tigers. Campbellsville was not discouraged as Penny and Milburn continuously tied the score. With just under two minutes remaining, Indiana Southeast took the lead, forcing the Tigers to send them to the line. Javaughn Smith and Kramer tried to push the Tigers into the lead but could not catch up, resulting in a Grenadier win, 88-84.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, November 22nd, hosting Spartanburg Methodist College in their Lou Cunningham Classic. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Four Tigers reached double digits in today's game: Milburn with 17 points, Penny with 16, Kramer with 14, and Smith with 11. Brown, Smith, and Penny all assisted the Tigers four times.
