Tigers struggle offensively in second half, fall to Cavaliers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted the Montreat College Cavaliers on Saturday night, concluding their annual Campbellsville Classic. With intense, physical play in the closing minutes of the game and with the Tigers unable to convert efficiently on the offensive end, Campbellsville ultimately fell to Montreat, 85-81.

The Cavaliers opened the game with a three-point bucket in the first few seconds. However, Jay Milburn retaliated with a three of his own, evening the score. Montreat caught an early lead with a few baskets in their favor, however, Ra Briggs and James Jewell came off the bench with back-to-back three pointers, taking the upper hand. Both teams kept going back-and-forth, tying the score and stealing the lead from one another. Dalton Kramer and Marcellus Vail's three-point buckets continued to propel Campbellsville forward on the scoreboard, preserving their spot in the winning end of the scoreboard. Briggs racked up three-pointer after three-pointer, widening the gap on the scoreboard. At the end of the first half, the Tigers led behind their season high three-point makes for a half with ten, 42-37

Much like the first, the Cavaliers scored the first basket of the second half. Vail retaliated with another three-point bucket, preventing Montreat from coming close to the lead. As the second half continued to unfold, the defensive onslaught from both teams only strengthened, with neither team being able to connect at the basket and only scoring from the free-throw line. Cobe Penny and Keaston Brown continuously tied the score with their baskets, not faltering at the sight of trouble from the Cavaliers' retaliation. Montreat stole the lead taking advantage of their heavy rebounding to gain control over the ball. With only 30 seconds left on the clock, the Tigers sought the victory only trailing by three points. However, they were unable to secure steals and force the Cavaliers into charity-stripe misses in the closing seconds of the game, the Tigers fell to the Cavaliers, 85-81.

The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Bowling Green, Kentucky to battle the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers in an exhibition on Tuesday, November 12th, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
