BOWLING GREEN, KY – For the second straight season the Tigers finished runner-ups at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Friday.
Dominic Malel and
Lukas Smithson punched their individual tickets to the NAIA National Championships in two weeks. Malel led the Tigers with his 3
rd place finish of 24:38.6 while Smithson was 5
th running a 25:37.3. Both Smithson and Malel earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Jean-Benoit Merte and
Martin Batel finished in back-to-back positions in 10
th and 11
th in the race. Merte was 10
th for Campbellsville in 25:54.1, Batel was 11
th in 25:55.4. The duo earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
Samuel Bennett found his way into the top 25 with a 23
rd place time of 26:36.6.
Brayden Kaelin came in as the sixth man for Campbellsville on Friday finishing in 26
th place and running 26:49.0.
Aaron Smith was the final man in for the top seven. Smith was 32
nd in the meet with a time of 27:15.4.
As a team, Campbellsville finished with 49 team points and a 1-5 spread of 1:58.0. The Tigers will now look for an at-large bid for the NAIA National Championship to qualify them as a team in two weeks.
- Campbellsville has only placed outside of the top two in the Mid-South Conference Championships one time since 2015.
- This is Aaron Smith's first appearance in the top seven this season for the Tigers.
- The score of 49 is the lowest team score at the Mid-South Conference Championships since 2017.
