OWENSBORO, Ky. – Campbellsville University placed three men among the first 11 finishers en route to a runner-up team finish, while freshman Ava Groves led the women to third place as the Tigers opened their 2026 cross country season Friday at the Panther Prowl Cross Country Classic at Yellow Creek Park.

• Aaron Smith, Samuel Larson, and Dustin Ralph crossed within 11.83 seconds of one another to give Campbellsville three of the first 11 finishers in the men's race. Smith placed eighth in 17:07.90, Larson followed in ninth at 17:10.07, and Ralph finished 11th in 17:19.73.
• The men's scoring five compiled 60 points to place second behind Vincennes University. Campbellsville's three scorers inside the top 11 accounted for only 24 points.
• Groves delivered a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut, completing the women's 5K in 21:42.63 to place 10th overall and earn nine team points.
• Julia Smaldone finished one position behind Groves in 21:58.49, giving the Campbellsville women consecutive finishers and two runners under 22 minutes.
• Campbellsville's five scoring women finished among the top 24 overall. Only 1:48.04 separated Groves from fifth scorer Rebecca Stringer, demonstrating a compact scoring group in the season opener.
• Newcomers contributed to both lineups. Groves paced the women, freshman Brian Kemboi finished as the men's fourth scorer in 17:50.46, and freshman Wyatt Lawson completed Campbellsville's top six in 18:46.97.
• The women totaled 72 points and averaged 22:41.32 across their scoring five, finishing behind Vincennes and Asbury University. Campbellsville held a 26-point advantage over fourth-place Brescia University.

Smith set the pace for the Campbellsville men, crossing eighth overall in 17:07.90. Larson arrived 2.17 seconds later in ninth, and Ralph completed the Tigers' lead pack with an 11th-place time of 17:19.73.

Kemboi was Campbellsville's fourth finisher, placing 17th in 17:50.46. Austin Barnes closed the scoring in 23rd at 18:11.93, giving the Tigers 60 points and the runner-up finish. Lawson followed in 28th, while Mathew Mattingly placed 31st in 19:11.70.

Corbin Hale finished 37th in 19:50.91, and freshman Tyler Wilkerson completed Campbellsville's men's lineup in 42nd at 21:06.70. Vincennes secured the team title after placing four runners among the first five finishers.

In the women's 5K, Groves led Campbellsville across the line in 10th place. Smaldone followed 15.86 seconds later in 11th, posting a time of 21:58.49.

Karly Spalding supplied the Tigers' third scoring performance with a 17th-place time of 22:52.17. Amelia Larson finished 23rd in 23:22.64 before Stringer secured the fifth scoring position by placing 24th in 23:30.67.

Freshman Roxy Bogardus crossed 32nd in 24:53.60, and senior Maggie Jewell followed in 33rd at 25:02.40. Campbellsville's scoring five combined for a time of 1:53:26.60 and a third-place total of 72 points.

The Tigers return to competition Friday, Sept. 18, at the Midway University Invitational in Midway, Kentucky.
