Flowers' double-double nets Lady Tigers 31-point win at home

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In their last home contest of the 2024 calendar year, the #3 Lady Tigers earned a 31-point win over the Carolina Bruins by committee with six different players scoring ten or more points.

Though the Bruins came out with a layup, their 2-0 advantage was the only one they'd see the rest of the way. On the subsequent offensive possession, Lauren Lee evened the game with her and-one lay-in. Then, a turnover led to another paint and fast-break bucket for the Lady Tigers. Repeatedly in the debut period, Campbellsville capitalized on turnovers to pad their lead. By the conclusion of the opening ten minutes, the Lady Tigers were up by ten, 23-13.

The second period saw the lead cut to six with just over three minutes elapsed, but again steals and effective passing into fast-break opportunities and easy baskets at the rim resulted in another burgeoning advantage. The Lady Tigers notched 16 points in the painted area before halftime sounded and headed into the locker room with a 17-point advantage.

The second half saw Campbellsville taking care of their lead by not fixing what wasn't broken from the first twenty minutes: points in the paint and fast breaks. When the final buzzer would sound, the Lady Tigers put up 58 points in the paint  (32 points better than the Bruins) and 26 of those coming from fast breaks (20 better). Furthermore, effective fast breaks can be defined, in large part, by assists, and rebounds, which Campbellsville also kept in their control. The Lady Tigers had 13 more assists than the Bruins (26 to 13) and 12 more rebounds (30 to 18). Campbellsville walked off Donna Wise Court and out of Powell Gym for the final time of 2024 with the 31-point victory, 90-59.

Campbellsville Tigers Story Banner 24-25
  • Flowers (15), Lee (14), Hallie Allen (14), Dea Bradley (11), Whitney Hay (ten), and Talynne Shearer (ten)all had double-digit point totals.
  • Flowers led the team in points, rebounds (15), and blocks (four), all season-highs for the junior. Her double-double in this game was her second of the season, the other coming in the 2024-25 opener against Union Commonwealth back in late October when she had 14 points and ten rebounds.
  • Although they outscored the Bruins in each quarter, Campbellsville's bookend periods proved decisive; the team outscored Carolina by ten and 11 in the first and fourth quarters respectively, the two largest differentials of the contest.
  • The Lady Tigers shot 12 percent or better than the Bruins in each period, even the second quarter when Carolina hit 42% of their shots. That ten minutes was actually the biggest disparity of any as Campbellsville connected on a staggering 62% of their shots in the second.
