Lady Tigers capitalize on turnovers to take down Lady Wildcats

MCKENZIE, Tenn.- The #3 Lady Tigers traveled down to Tennessee to battle the Bethel University Lady Wildcats on Thursday night. With nearly triple points off turnovers throughout the contest, Campbellsville took the victory, 71-49.

With the win, Lady Tiger Basketball secured their 1️⃣7️⃣17th Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship in program history and their 99️⃣th under Coach Ginger High-Colvin.

The first quarter came to a slow start, with neither team scoring any baskets in the opening two minutes of the game. The Lady Wildcats made the first basket of the line in the paint, and Whitney Hay quickly responded with a layup. As the quarter progressed, the intensity ramped up as both sides traded bucket after bucket, desperately seeking control of the scoreboard. With a seven-point run and two three-point buckets from Maddy Boyle and Bailey Pedigo, the Lady Tigers took the lead at the end of the first quarter, 21-14.

Campbellsville opened the second quarter with a few more points to expand their lead with Kaitlynn Wilks at the charity stripe. Despite Bethel's efforts with a couple of layups, the Lady Tigers continued to surge ahead. With only a couple minutes left in the second half, both teams boosted their blocks and rebounds, Campbellsville in attempts to grow their advantage, and the Lady Wildcats hoping to steal the lead back from the Lady Tigers. At the end of the first 20 minutes of play, Campbellsville remained in the lead, 39-25.

At the half, the Lady Tigers' strategic plays brought them to the lead, collecting nearly triple points off turnovers with 13 to the Lady Wildcats' five and nearly double points in the paint with 14 to their 10. Bethel's biggest advantage of the game was their rebounds, outnumbering Campbellsville with 17 to their 12.

The second half began with an exchange of baskets from both teams, counteracting their initial efforts to jump upward on the scoreboard. Courtney Pritchett's fierce jumpers propelled the Lady Tigers forward, strengthening their hold over the upper hand. Elizabeth Bertram's agile contribution off the bench, including a timely layup, further propelled Campbellsville's advantage, stretching their lead to a commanding 16 points over Bethel. Going into the last quarter, the Lady Wildcats continued to trail the Lady Tigers, 56-41.

The first couple of points of the last quarter were Bethel's, going two-for-two at the charity stripe. Both teams elevated their defensive attacks, preventing each other from landing any baskets in the next few minutes of the contest. Tyra Flowers' impeccable defense brought momentum back in Campbellsville's favor, as her third steal of the game resulted in a swift layup by Lauren Lee, who had already collected over 20 points throughout the match. The Lady Wildcats' offense struggled to catch up with the Lady Tigers in the last quarter, only scoring eight points to Campbellsville's 15. Paige Evans came into the game, going straight to the free-throw line with two successful shots, and closed the game with a Lady Tiger win 71-49.

Campbellsville's offensive attacks on the court carried them to victory throughout the contest, consistently taking advantage of Bethel's turnovers to connect with 21 points off turnovers to their nine. Additionally, two Lady Tigers reached double digits during tonight's game: Lee with 22 points and Wilks with 11.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action, continuing their weekend in Tennessee, traveling to Henderson to battle the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions on Saturday, February 17th, beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
