Lady Tigers sweep doubleheader over the Phoenix

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the Cumberland University Phoenix on Thursday for a doubleheader. Campbellsville finished the day with two victories under their belt.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 10, Cumberland 3

Katy Chadwell began the first inning, striking out two Phoenix batters, bringing the top of the first to a quick end. Keely Bowling and Morgan Carter came into the game with a single to center field each, bringing her fellow Lady Tigers across the plate. For most of the bottom of the first, Campbellsville kept their bases loaded, with only one out after scoring five runs.

The second and third innings quickly ended as both teams put each other out in three up, three down style.

Cumberland collected their first hit of the game during the beginning of the fourth inning. Yet unable to put themselves on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers were swiftly put away during their share of the fourth in a three up, three down fashion.

The fifth inning was highlighted by the first home run of the game by Lindsey Mitchell, bringing Campbellsville to a six to nothing advantage over the Phoenix.

Cumberland made it to the scoreboard in the opening of the sixth inning with a three-run home run. Campbellsville retaliated with back-to-back home runs by Emily Reynolds and Caroline Pitcock, widening the Lady Tigers' upper hand to seven runs over the Phoenix.

The Lady Tigers significantly surpassed Cumberland in multiple statistical aspects of the game: hits (11-6), home runs (3-1), RBI (11-3), and doubles (3-1). Reynolds, Mitchell, Morgan Carter, and Kaeleigh Tuck each collected two RBIs for Campbellsville. Additionally, Reynolds, Pitcock, and Mitchell each scored a home run. Chadwell struck out five Phoenix batters throughout the game.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 6, Cumberland 5

The Phoenix began the second game of the day with a single to left center. However, they were unable to make it across the plate before switching sides. The Lady Tigers were first on the scoreboard with back-to-back RBIs by Mitchell and Carter, bringing Jessie Daniels and Pitcock home.

Cumberland made it to the scoreboard in the top of the second with a single to center field. Windell began the bottom of the second flying out to center field, resulting in Camille Conkright scoring another run for Campbellsville.

The first Phoenix batter in the third inning homered to left center. With another run shortly after, Cumberland tied the score at three.

In the opening of the fourth inning, the Phoenix stole the least from the Lady Tigers. Windell swiftly came up to the plate, singling to right field and bringing Bowling to score another run to tie the scoreboard back, with each team holding exactly four runs, eight hits, and two errors each.

Cumberland's share of the fifth inning was short-lived, being put away in three up, three down style with two struck out batters. Campbellsville earned another run as Mitchell crossed the dish, reclaiming their lead at the end of the bottom of the fifth.

Coming into the sixth inning, the game became a constant battle for the lead. The Phoenix tied the score for the third time, and neither team was able to keep a stronghold on the advantage. Windell stole second base and quickly made her way to home with Pitcock at bat, closing the bottom of the sixth with Cumberland trailing the Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville swiftly put the Phoenix away in three up, three down style, taking their second victory of the day.

The Lady Tigers outperformed Cumberland in the following statistical categories: put-outs (21-18), assists (11-8), and hits (12-10). Windell led with two RBIs, followed by Pitcock, Mitchell, Carter, and Conkright with one each. Courtney Patterson and Ellie Coley worked together, striking out four batters.     

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday, March 16th, hosting the Cumberland University Phoenix for a doubleheader beginning at 1 & 3 p.m. ET.
