Lady Tigers win one, lose one against the Phoenix

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky . – The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the Cumberland University Phoenix on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader to complete the series. Campbellsville split the day, winning the first game and falling in the second.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 4, Cumberland 3

Katy Chadwell opened in the circle for the Lady Tigers. The Phoenix earned two hits and sent one across the plate to take an early 1-0 in the top of the first. Chadwell retired the top half with a big strikeout for the final out. Jesse Daniels was the first Lady Tiger to reach base with a single through the left side, followed by Lindsey Mitchell with a single of her own. Mitchell's single sent Daniels home, tying the game at 1-1.

Campbellsville got three quick outs at the top of the second inning, allowing an infield single. Cumberland couldn't capitalize with a runner on base, leaving the score at 1-1. Camille Conkright singled to right field and advanced to second with the help of Kaeleigh Tuck. Unfortunately, Conkright was left stranded to move into the third.

The Phoenix added another hit to their side of the scoreboard but couldn't make anything of it before the final out was recorded. In the bottom half, Emily Reynolds reached base via walk. Caroline Pitcock doubled to left center, putting two runners in scoring position. Mitchell singled down the left field line, scoring Reynolds and Pitcock. Keely Bowling was awarded free bases on a walk but was left on base. The Lady Tigers took a two-run lead over the Phoenix, 3-1.

The fourth inning ended quickly for the Phoenix. Tuck led off the bottom half with a single to shortstop. With the help of a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Windell, Tuck moved into scoring position at second. Emily Reynolds reached via walk, followed by Pitcock reaching on an infield error. Campbellsville couldn't add more runs to their side of the scoreboard before the inning's conclusion.

The Lady Tigers put the Phoenix away in a three up, three down fashion to begin the fifth inning. Morgan Carter started off the bottom half with a walk, followed by a single to right center from Bowling. Callie Webb came in to pinch run for Carter. A sacrifice bunt from Conkright advanced Webb and Bowling into scoring position at second and third. Another bunt, this time from Tuck, scored Webb. The Lady Tigers lead 4-1 to go into the sixth inning of work.

An outfield error and two singles helped the Phoenix add another run to their side of the scoreboard. Daniels sent a pitch to right field, good enough for a double, but was left on base.

In the top of the seventh, Cumberland reached on an infield error, doubled to left center, and sent on run across the plate. The Phoenix cut the Lady Tigers' lead to just one run, but it wasn't enough. Campbellsville took the first game of the day, 4-3.
