PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers saw the University of Pikeville Bears on Tuesday and, by more than doubling Pikeville with 10-4 RBIs, Campbellsville took the convincing victory.
Mael Zan opened the with a double, however, unable to make it across the plate before the end of the top of the first. The Bears earned a free base during the bottom of the first, but their time at-bat quickly came to an end.
The Tigers were first on the scoreboard as Jonah Bachiu singled to left field bringing Henry Wright home during the top of the second. Pikeville quickly retaliated during their share of the inning with a home run to right center.
The third was short-lived for both teams, neither able to score throughout the inning. However, the top of the fourth inning was highlighted by a two-run home run to left field from Buchanan. The Bears' bottom of the fourth followed with their second home run of the game.
Zan and Amayas Lamar's back-to-back RBIs brought Campbellsville back in the lead. Pikeville retaliated with another run in their favor, but still trailing the Tigers after six innings.
Jonah Bachiu began the seventh inning with a single to center field, followed shortly after by a three-run double to left field by Lamar. While the Bears were unable to score during their share of the seventh, the Tigers widened Pikeville's deficit two six innings.
Campbellsville was quickly put away in three up, three down fashion during the top of the eighth. The Bears singled to center field scoring another run and seeking to catch up with the Tigers' advantage in the last inning of the game. Bachiu filed out to right field bringing Lorenzo Gonzalez to score another run and close the game with a win for Campbellsville.
Lamar led the Tigers with four hits and four RBIs, followed by Bachiu with four hits and three RBIs. PJ Ledesma, Ian Roemer, Mason Lee, and Aaron Hammer struck out nine batters, limiting Pikeville to four runs. Campbellsville led over the Bears with 11 assists to their nine and two stolen bases to their zero.
The Tigers will be back in action hosting the Cumberland University Phoenix on Friday, March 22nd beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
