Lady Tigers take down Eagles in doubleheader sweep

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the Asbury University Eagles on Wednesday for a doubleheader. With three home runs throughout the day, Campbellsville swept Asbury with two victories.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 7, Asbury 1

The Lady Tigers opened the game swiftly, putting away the Eagles in three up, three down fashion. Jessie Daniels began the bottom of the first with a home run to right center. Lindsay Mitchell reached base on an infield error but was caught at second base, finishing the first inning.

Keely Bowling kicked off the bottom of the second with a home run to center field. The Eagles were yet to make it to the scoreboard at the end of the inning.

After Asbury earned a free base, they scored on a double down left field, making their first run of the game. Daniels and Caroline Pitcock singled to reach base, however, they were unable to make it across the plate as the inning ended.

The Eagles were quickly put away by Campbellsville in three up, three down style during the top of the fourth. Camille Conkright tripled to right field at the bottom of the fourth, but she was unable to make it home before the end of the inning.

In the opening of the bottom of the fifth, Pitcock singled to shortstop, bringing Daniels to score another run for the Lady Tigers. Emily Reynolds followed shortly after scoring on a passed ball.

Two Eagles batters made it to base; however, neither managed to score before their share of the six came around. The bottom of the sixth was highlighted by Reynolds' 3RBI, bringing Daniels, Conkright, and Bowling across the dish and increasing Campbellsville's lead to six runs over Asbury.

The game ended with the Lady Tigers putting away the Eagles in three up, three down style during the top of the seventh inning.

The Campbellsville significantly surpassed Asbury in multiple statistical aspects of the game: hits (10-4), home runs (2-0), RBI (6-1), triples (2-0), put outs (21-18), and OPS (1.094-.422). Reynolds led the Lady Tigers with three RBIs, and Katy Chadwell struck out nine Eagle Batters.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 5, Asbury 4

The Eagles began the second game of the day by collecting two hits but were unable to make it home. The Lady Tigers' share of the first was short-lived, being put away swiftly in three up, three down style.

A two-run home run highlighted Asbury's top of the third. Daniels retaliated with a home run of her own during Campbellsville's share of the inning. Daniels and Reynolds' hits were the first hits for the Lady Tigers in the second game.

Much like the third, the Eagles scored another two-run home run during the bottom of the fourth, expanding Campbellsville's deficit on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers' portion of the fourth did not last long, being put away in three up, three down fashion.

Asbury began the fifth inning by doubling to left field; however, they were unable to score before switching sides with Campbellsville. Annabelle Knoop, Mitchell, and Conkright quickly loaded the Lady Tigers' bases as they began the bottom of the fifth. Reynolds scored a three-run home run, bringing Campbellsville to their first lead of the game.

The Eagles started the sixth inning with a single to right center, unable to catch up with the Lady Tigers' upper hand. Conkright followed shortly after singling through the right side. Mitchell reached base on a fielder's choice before the end of Campbellsville's share of the inning.

Although Asbury began the last inning with a single up the middle, they did not manage to score and surpass the Lady Tigers.

Reynolds led Campbellsville with three RBIs, followed by Daniels with two. Courtney Patterson and Ellie Coley worked together, striking out six Asbury batters.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Friday, March 29th, traveling to McKenzie, Tennessee, to battle the Bethel University Wildcats for a doubleheader beginning at 1 & 3 p.m. ET.
