HENDERSON, Tenn.- The Tigers battled the Freed-Hardeman University Lions on their second day down in Tennessee. Campbellsville finished their three-game series with no victories against Freed-Hardeman.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 7, Freed-Hardeman 11
Chad McCann reached first base due to a hit by pitch; however, the end of the top of the first came before he was able to reach home. The Lions began the bottom of the inning with a home run to center field. Shortly after, doubling to left center, Freed-Hardeman scored another run, leaving the Tigers trailing.
Campbellsville collected four hits throughout the top of the third, McCann singling to left field, Kale Seitz doubling down the right field line, Mael Zan singling up the middle, and Trent Buchanan reaching base on a fielder's choice, each bringing in a batter across the plate and surpassing the Lions on the scoreboard. Freed-Hardeman retaliated in the opening seconds of the bottom of the inning with another home run to left field.
The Tigers' share of the fifth inning was highlighted by the first Campbellsville home run of the game by Jorge Gonzalez. Shortly after, the Lions were swiftly put away in three up, three down fashion during the bottom of the fifth.
Henry Wright singled to right field, unable to make it across the dish before switching sides with Freed-Hardeman. The Lions struck back with eight runs, two of which came from a two-run home run, stealing the lead and leaving the Tigers trailing by six runs on the scoreboard.
Campbellsville did not falter at the sight of trouble, as Trent Buchanan and Yosuke Fujie each collected an RBI, bringing Seitz and McCann home.
Gonzalez, McCann, Seitz, and Zan each collected two hits, while Buchanan led with two RBIs. Zane Morrison, Ian Roemer, and Mason Lee worked together, striking out seven Freed-Hardeman batters.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 4, Freed-Hardeman 10
The Tigers were first on the scoreboard as Zan singled up the middle, bringing McCann to score the first run of the game. Buchanan opened the second inning, singling to second base. However, he could not reach the dish before switching sides with the Lions. Freed-Hardeman retaliated with a single to left field, tying the scoreboard.
During their share of the third inning, the Lions took the lead, leaving Campbellsville trailing by three runs. Wright quickly retaliated as he flew out to center field, bringing Fujie to score.
Although neither team managed to score throughout the fifth inning, McCann and Seitz each collected a hit. However, as the sixth inning came around, Fujie and Jonah Bachiu tied the score with a run each. The Lions swiftly struck the Tigers with two home runs during their portion of the sixth.
Both teams put each other away in three up, three down style during the seventh inning. Much like the seventh, Campbellsville was swiftly put away during the top of the eighth. Freed-Hardeman collected four runs during their share of the inning, one of which was a home run. The Tigers were once again put away in three up, three down style, closing the game after the top of the ninth inning.
Seitz led Campbellsville with two hits, while Amayas Lamar, Zan, and Wright each collected an RBI. Tristin Crusenberry and Logan MacNiel worked together, striking out eight Freed-Hardeman batters.
The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, April 2nd, hosting the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
