GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky, to complete the three-game series on Sunday. In the final game, the Tigers took down the opposing Tigers, winning 7-5.
Chad McCann singled to right field to begin the game, followed by a pitch sent up the middle to Mael Zan on first. Both couldn't advance before the final out was recorded. The opposed Tigers were able to reach but couldn't send any across the plate.
The next several innings were retired quickly for both sides to move into the fourth inning of work. With two outs, Trent Buchanan put the first run on the scoreboard with a homerun to give Campbellsville a 1-0 lead.
The opposing Tigers remained scoreless through the bottom of the fifth inning. McCann sent a pitch over the left field fence, giving the Tigers another run on their side of the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Buchanan followed with a single of his own but was left on base.
To begin the seventh inning, Yosuke Fujie doubled to left field. Fujie found his way around the bases, adding another run to the Tigers' lead with the help of a sacrifice bunt from Jonah Bachiu and an error on the catcher. Georgetown managed to send two runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, leaving the score at 3-2.
Jorge Gonzalez reached base on a single, advancing to second base on a wild pitch. J. Gonzalez advanced to third with the help of McCann. Buchanan was given free bases with an intentional walk, leaving two Tigers on base. Shoki Fukui came in to pinch run for Buchanan, stealing second to have two runners in scoring position. Lorenzo Gonzalez doubled to center field, scoring J. Gonzalez and Fukui. Campbellsville's success continued with Fujie earning a triple down the right field line, scoring L. Gonzalez. Bachiu reached via walk, scoring Fujie on a passed ball. Bachiu stole second but was left on base. The Tigers took a 7-2 lead over Georgetown to head into the bottom of the eighth inning. The opposing Tigers added two more runs to their side of the scoreboard, cutting Campbellsville's lead to just three runs.
Amayas Lamar opened the ninth inning with a single, followed by J. Gonzalez reaching on a fielder's choice. J. Gonzalez was left on base when the final out was made. The opposing Tigers sent one more run across the plate in the bottom half, but it wasn't enough. Campbellsville took down Georgetown, winning 7-5 to win the series.
Campbellsville will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17th, in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
