COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Lindsey Wilson College on Friday afternoon to begin their three-game series. In the series' first game, the Tigers fell to the Blue Raiders 7-2.
In a quiet opening frame, the Tigers were unable to muster a hit in the first inning. Conversely, the Blue Raiders managed to scratch across a single hit. Quickly after, the Tigers were able to force a double play. The second inning belonged to Lindsey Wilson College on the mound. Campbellsville was shut down and unable to gain a hit. The Blue Raiders connected for one hit, putting a runner on base but failing to capitalize further. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the second inning.
The Tigers could not get in the hitting category in the top of the third inning. The Blue Raiders gained a hit to score a run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers clawed their way back into the game in a tense top of the fourth. With one out, Jorge Gonzalez stepped up to the plate and delivered a double to left center. This brought Amayas Lamar, who reached on a swinging strike to third, but Campbellsville could not capitalize on the opportunity. The Blue Raiders scored two more runs to make the score 3-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
The Tigers were able to get a baserunner as Yosuke Fujie got hit by a pitch early in inning five. Fujie advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and Henry Wright reached first by walking. Campbellsville could not capitalize with runners on base and ended the inning empty. The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Blue Raiders tacked on another run to make the scoreboard read 4-0.
The Tigers found their stride in the top of the sixth; Mael Zan started Campbellsville off with a hit up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Kale Seitz RBI allowed the Tigers to get their first run of the game. An RBI single by Trent Buchanan brought in another run to bring the score to 4-2. Lindsey Wilson brought another run across the plate to bring the score to 5-2 at the end of the sixth inning. Neither team was able to get on base in the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning, Chad McCann reached base with a single but ran into a double play to end the inning for Campbellsville. The Blue Raiders added two runs to their lead to bring the score to 7-2 at the end of the eighth inning.
The Tigers could not get their bats going in the final inning of play, falling to Lindsey Wilson 7-2.
The Tigers will continue the three-game series tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th, in Columbia, Kentucky. The games are set to begin at 1 and 4 p.m. ET.
