GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Lady Tigers needed conference victories to improve their standings before the nearing Mid-South Conference Tournament.
Katy Chadwell had a tremendous game one, nearly notching a no-hitter in her win before Georgetown turned on the jets to win the second game.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 7, Georgetown 1
With two outs,
Caroline Pitcock was hit by a pitch, becoming the first Lady Tiger to reach first base. Subsequently, Pitcock stole second and then advanced to third on an error.
Lindsey Mitchell sent her home, rocketing a double to right center. One half-inning in, one run scored. Chadwell struck out two of the opening three batters for the rival Tigers to take the game to the second frame.
Both teams didn't register a hit in the second or third innings, both going three up, three down in the latter. In the fourth both
Morgan Carter and
Taylor Windell added to the hit total, but their connections didn't translate to runs. The Georgetown Tigers saw their first two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth, following a walk and an error. Campbellsville clamped down their defensive effort though and prevented any damage.
Keely Bowling sent her fifth home run of the season past the fence leading off in the fifth frame. After
Jessie Daniels was walked,
Emily Reynolds and Pitcock both singled to left field with Pitcock scoring Daniels. Georgetown couldn't put forth a response, entering the sixth down 3-0. The Lady Tigers continued to pile on the scoreboard with four hits and four runs in the sixth: a leadoff Carter single, a Bowling single, a Tuck single, and a Daniels double doing damage. The rival Tigers got one on via a hit-by-pitch but left her stranded.
In the final frame, Campbellsville only put three batters up. Georgetown would record their first and second hits of the game, but the Lady Tigers secured the shut out with Chadwell's eighth strikeout and her win number 12 of the year.
Both Daniels and Bowling paced the team with their two hits, while Daniels had a team-high 2 RBIs. Eight Lady Tigers registered a hit and totaled ten to the rival Tigers' two.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 4, Georgetown 10
Daniels kicked off the second game of the doubleheader with a double past the third baseman, but no runs came of it. The rival Tigers recorded a hit in their share of the inning, but a defensive double play nixed the threat before the final out was recorded.
In the second, Windell hit her second home run of the season and then Bowling got her second homer of the day right after. With the score at 2-0 for Campbellsville, a Pitcock single sent in Camile Conkright who had been walked. Suddenly, the contest was at 3-0 and, despite Georgetown's three hits in their turn at the plate, they mustered only one run in their retort. The final outs of the frame were yet another double play to leave one on base for the rival Tigers.
The third inning was a short one with both teams putting up three batters and seeing each sent back to the dugout. The fourth had the Lady Tigers put up two hits but both were left on base. The rival Tigers' lone hit suffered the same fate as
Ellie Coley took to the circle in relief of starter
Courtney Patterson.
The fifth frame was a long one with Campbellsville getting two hits before their time at the plate was cut short scoreless. The Georgetown bats came alive collecting six runs off nine hits in the inning.
Allison Bush entered for Coley after the fourth score. Reeling, the Lady Tigers couldn't bring either of their two hits home in the top of the sixth. The rival Tigers added three more runs with their at-bats to bring their advantage to 10-3. Campbellsville added a run in the seventh, but the contest ended 10-4 in Georgetown's favor.
The series will continue Saturday, April 20
th at 1 p.m. ET for the final two games.
