OWENSBORO/LOUISVILLE, KY – Campbellsville was split into two squads once again over the weekend, with most of the team in Owensboro for the Bearcat Invitational and the distance crew in Louisville for the Jim Vargo Invitational.
In Louisville,
Lukas Smithson led the way for the Tigers with a personal best coming in the 5,000m run in 15:18.93, placing 15th overall, beating his previous best by 25 seconds.
Alexander Steen placed 34th in the 800m in 2:01.30.
Dakota Brady doubled up his weekend in both the 800m and 1500m. In the 800m, he was close behind Steen in 41st in 2:03.79 while placing 42nd in the 1500m with a time of 4:16.90.
Aaron Smith and
Samuel Bennett made their season debuts in the 10,000m run. Smith made his collegiate debut in the event and ran a personal best of 33:15.22, placing 11th. Bennett was one place behind Smith in 12th overall in 33:24.18.
In Owensboro, Campbellsville ran away with the team title at the Bearcat Invitational with 226 team points and 2nd place, 58 points behind.
Ishan Cooper and
Van Thrasher were key highlights for the Tigers, securing NAIA Championship tickets in late April in the 110m hurdles. Cooper won the event in his season debut in 14.64, while Thrasher was 3rd in 14.80.
Gregory Carr,
Malachi Crawford,
Zahnte' Brown, and
William Riley followed the duo in scoring in the event. Carr was 4th at 15.97, Crawford placed 5th in 16.37, Brown was 7th at 18.83, and Riley rounded out the scoring in 8th in 19.24.
The same group all found themselves in scoring position for the 400m hurdles. Thrasher led the way this time finishing in 1st overall in 56.64. Carr was behind Thrasher in 2nd running 56.69, Cooper placed 4th in 1:02.10, Crawford was 5th in 1:03.49, Riley placed 6th in 1:04.44, and Brown earned the final point in 8th place in 1:09.64.
The Tigers had four athletes in scoring placements in the 100m.
Elijah Moore won the event in a personal best time and school record time of 10.70.
Zachary Phelps was 4th with a personal best time of 10.95,
Darionta Bell placed 6th in 11.05, and
Brandon Anthony placed 8th in 11.25. Alexander Boyd Jr. was the final sprinter to earn points over the weekend in the 400m. Boyd placed 5th in 56.77.
Both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays came away with wins on the weekend. In the 4x100m relay, Phelps, Moore, Carr, and
CamRon Hamby were able to finish in 42.11, while in the 4x400m relay, Bell, Phelps, Moore, and Boyd earned the victory in 3:28.34.
For the field events,
Seth Cartwright earned his second victory of his career. His first came back in the 2021-22 season in his collegiate debut. Cartwright won the shot put with a personal best mark of 14.30m.
Jonah Oliver was 2nd behind Cartwright in 12.71m.
Cainan Daniels placed 7th at 9.40m. For the discus throw, Oliver and Daniels earned 12 points for the team. Oliver was the runner-up with a mark of 41.81m, while Daniels was 5th overall at 28.20m.
Hamby,
Corey Smith II, and
Kilan Macklin took 1-2-3 spots in the triple jump. Hamby won the event with his best jump landing at 14.05m. Smith took the silver only .02m behind in 14.03m, and Macklin earned the bronze medal in 13.65m.
JaQuez Campbell won the long jump with his best jump of the day, hitting 6.77m.
Raylon Wilson was 5th in the standings, coming in at 6.40m,
David Young followed right behind Wilson in 6th at 6.20m, Hamby placed 7th in 5.95m, and
Zachary Mason was 8th in 5.57m.
Wilson and Mason combined for 12 points in the high jump. Wilson was the runner-up with a height of 1.80m, while Mason was 5th in the standings at 1.75m.
Jackson Hollinsworth set the school record in the pole vault by .65m with a height of 4.15m, winning the event. Daniels earned the bronze in the pole vault at 3.65m, a personal best height.
Justice Edlin rounded out the scoring for Campbellsville in the event, hitting a height of 3.50m.
The Tigers will be split-squading once again this upcoming weekend. They will be competing at the Centre Twilight on Friday, April 12th, and the Gordon Bullock Cumberlands Invitational & Distance Carnival on Friday, April 12th, and Saturday, April 13th.
