Six different conference champions lead Campbellsville to runner-up finish at MSC Outdoor Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The Tigers came away with six individual conference champions this weekend in Williamsburg.

Isaac Kiprop led the way for Campbellsville, hitting his NAIA A Standard and improving upon his previously set school record in a new record time of 9:20.68 in the 3,000m steeplechase. CamRon Hamby joined Kiprop on the winner's podium. Hamby cleared 1.97m, his opening height on the final attempt of the afternoon.

KIlan Macklin was the third Tiger to bring back the gold medal this weekend. Macklin battled the rain delay twice on Sunday and made tougher takeoff conditions in the long jump. Macklin hit a mark of 6.99m, just .02m ahead of second place, to secure the victory. 

Ishan Cooper and Van Thrasher continue to be the key point scorers for the team in the hurdles. Cooper came away with the 110m hurdles title with a time of 14.53, while Thrasher won the 400m title with a surge in the final 80 meters of the race in 55.05, improving his school record by .12 seconds. 

Corey Smith II was the final athlete to record a win this weekend for the Tigers. Smith had no trouble in his triple jump, beating out the competition by .56 meters with a mark of 14.88m on his final attempt of the day. 

Campbellsville had several other point scorers throughout the meet that brought in key performances. Zachary Phelps gave the Tigers one point in the 400m with a new personal best of 49.97, placing 8th overall. Phelps and Elijah Moore qualified for the finals in the 100m. Moore set his school record by .01 with a silver medal finish time of 10.69, while Phelps was 6th overall in 11.05. 

Accompanying Thrasher lead in the 400m hurdles, Campbellsville gained 23 points alone from the event. Cooper was the bronze medalist in the event with a personal best time of 56.43. Gregory Carr was 5th overall in 58.22, and William Riley rounded out the scoring group, placing 6th in 1:00.53. 

For the sprint relays, Campbellsville was the runner-up in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. In the 4x100m , Darionta BellJaQuez Campbell, Moore, and Phelps finished in 41.55. For the 4x400m relay, Phelps, Alexander Boyd, Jr. Bell, and Maikyah Stowe were 3:21.48 at the line. 

On the distance side of the track, Kiprop was joined by Myles Smithson, who placed 6th in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.65. Campbellsville placed 4th overall in the 4x800m relay with Lukas Smithson, Max Weston, Ethan Johnson, and Ben Graf with a time of 8:15.66. 

Lukas was the lone scorer for the Tigers in the 1500m, placing 7th overall at 4:05.31. Samuel Larson was the final scorer for the distance events this weekend in the 5,000m run. Larson finished 7th place in the event in 16:17.13. 

The field events proved to be the hidden key for the Tigers overall. Jackson Hollinsworth and Cainan Daniels finished in back-to-back 2-3 positions in the pole vault. Hollinsworth was the runner-up, beating his school record of 4.38m by .02m to now 4.40m, while Daniels was 3rd with a height of 3.80m.

Following the lead of Macklin in the long jump, Campbell was 4th place after the event with his mark of 6.79m. Raylon Wilson was behind Campbell in 5th at 6.60m. Wilson also placed 5th in the high jump with his best of 1.92m on his third attempt. 

Smith had both the Hamby brothers of CamRon and Jaron Hamby to help with points overall. CamRon was 4th in the triple jump at 13.78m, while Jaron was 7th overall with a mark of 12.27m. 

Jonah Oliver finished the highest for the team in the throws this weekend. He placed 4th in the hammer throw with a mark landing at 42.13m. Malachi Crawford was 5th overall in the javelin throw at 42.28m. Seth Cartwright was the final scorer for Campbellsville this weekend in the shot put. Cartwright finished 6th with a throw of 13.84m. 

Overall, the Tigers finished runner-up with 185.5 team points. 

Campbellsville will now go directly to the NCCAA Outdoor Championships on May 8-10 this week in Columbia, South Carolina.
