Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Liliana Gonzalez & Ashlyn Sandidge

Tigers fall short of victory on day one in Florida

PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Tigers took on the Columbia International University Rams and the Benedictine University Eagles on their first day in the Sunshine State. Unfortunately, Campbellsville finished their first day of play with no wins under their belt.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, Columbia International 3

The Rams opened the first set with the first kill of the game, however, the Tigers quickly retaliated and took over the lead. Both teams remained tightly close to one another, not allowing more than a few points in between each other on the scoreboard. Campbellsville's errors brought Columbia International to win the first set, 25-21.

Erica Calderon's kills earned the Tigers an early lead on the second set. Molly Shannon's service aces preserved Campbellsville's lead throughout the frame. However, the Tigers' efforts were not enough to surpass the Rams, losing the second set, 25-21.

Cierra Merrick, Emily Aabye, and Brooke Hager racked up multiple kills but were unable to catch up with Columbia International's momentum. Despite their efforts to claw their way up to the advantage, Campbellsville lost the third set, 25-15.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 0, Benedictine 3

The Tigers hit the court once again, playing the Benedictine University Redhawks. Campbellsville began with strong attacks from Calderon. However, their performance was marred by a series of service errors, particularly in the latter stages of the match. Benedictine University took the first set, 25-22.

Starting strong with the Tigers leading the set, the Redhawks climbed the score up. With a tight set going back and forth and a hard fight from both teams, the Tigers fell short in the second set to 26-24, giving the Redhawks a 2-0 in their favor.

Benedictine University secured a victory against Campbellsville, finishing with a score of 25-19. Despite the Tigers' strategies and efforts to regain momentum, The Redhawks' consistent performance led to their win. Critical errors from the Tigers also contributed to the Redhawks' scoring advantage.

The Tigers will be back in action, Friday, August 16th, on their second day down in Palm Beach, Florida, to battle the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers and the Dakota State University Trojans beginning at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET.

  • In the first game, Campbellsville surpassed Columbia International with 4.0 blocks to their 2.0.
  • Calderon led the Tigers with eight kills, Olivia Hellman with 18 digs, and Jana Krstic with 26 assists during the first game.
  • During the second game, Merrick led Campbellsville with seven kills, and Krstic with ten digs and 24 assists.
  • Much like last season, Campbellsville began the 2024 season with two consecutive defeats in Palm Beach.
