ATHENS, Tenn. – The (RV) Lady Tigers traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan University to face off the Bulldogs to begin their season. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Campbellsville's season-opener was delayed. The delay didn't cause the Lady Tigers to start their season any other way than with a first-match win.
Campbellsville had several shots on goal during the first half, all saved by Tennessee Wesleyan's goalkeeper, Laia Roch Font. Both teams experienced frequent fouls and made substitutions, but neither side managed to score. The score remained tied as the first half concluded.
The Lady Tigers took the lead with a goal from Oddny Helgadottir in the 51st minute, off the foot from graduate-transfer midfielder. However, Tennessee Wesleyan quickly equalized seconds later with their own goal. Despite attempts by Campbellsville, including shots from Merel Houweling and Lina Berrah, the match remained tightly contested. Lady Tiger's Lina Berrah scored the second goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Alba Vea. Despite late attempts by Tennessee Wesleyan, Campbellsville held their lead and secured the victory, 2-1.
The Lady Tigers will return to action with their first home game of the season on Wednesday, August 21st, facing Shawnee State University. The match is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
