FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday, August 24, the Tigers continued their tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they fell to the #20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars but bounced back with a strong performance, sweeping the Indiana South Bend Titans 25-10, 25-12, and 25-16.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, Mount Vernon Nazarene 3
The Cougars dominated the first set 25-14, despite both teams struggling with errors. In the second set, Campbellsville put up a strong fight but ultimately fell short 25-23, taking the lead at 23-22 before Mount Vernon Nazarene rattled off three straight points.
The third set proved crucial, as Mount Vernon Nazarene surged with six consecutive points early on. Campbellsville struggled to respond to this early advantage and failed to answer the Cougars' scoring spree. Cierra Merrick and Emily Aabye led Campbellsville's scoring; However, they could not close the gap. Mount Vernon Nazarene maintained their lead, winning the third set 25-18 and securing the match.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, IU-South Bend 0
In the opening set, Campbellsville quickly took control with assertive kills from Molly Shannon, supported by precise assists from Jana Krstic. Despite some service and attack errors, their offensive strength and solid defense led to a 25-10 victory.
The Tigers continued their dominance in the second set, winning 25-12. Their offensive prowess was on display again, with Shannon delivering strong kills and Marisa Gallardo adding a crucial service ace. Indiana South Bend's errors in attacks and serves contributed to Campbellsville's win.
Campbellsville clinched the match in the third set with a 25-16 score. The Tigers maintained their offensive solid play and capitalized on the Titans' mistakes to build a significant lead. Despite some efforts from IU South Bend to mount a comeback, including a few key kills and a service ace, Campbellsville's consistent performance ensured their sweep.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, August 30th, facing off Loyola University and MidAmerica Nazarene University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The matches are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. ET.
